The brake booster has failed on this model of Ford, and Ford has not acknowledged that this vin # associated with this model of Edge. There are some models of 2013 Ford Edges that they did repair under their CSP program. I feel like they need to extend their coverage across other 2013 Ford Edge vehicles, because other users are experiencing the same thing.
I heard a hissing and when I applied brakes they were spongy and went all the way to the floor. I had to pump them a lot to come to a stop. Very scary. I was told my vehicle was not included in the service bulletin. There are a lot of Ford Edge owners that have had to replace the brake booster but no reimbursement or help from Ford. They are excluding more vehicles with this problem than including. Brake boosters are not a common thing to go out unless you own a for Edge. This needs to be made a must for Ford to replace these.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the pedal extended to the floor with a hissing sound. Also, the brake pedal was very slow to retract. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who changed the rear brake pads and brake rotors however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was reexamined and diagnosed as having a faulty brake booster. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,320.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the brake pressure would fail causing the contact to have to excessively depress the brake pedal before the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle's timing before coming to a complete stop had also increased. The failure occurred intermittently when on an incline, however, the occurrence had increased. The dealer stated the failure related to a service bulletin regarding the replacement of the brake booster failed however the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however confirmed that the VIN was not included in the service bulletin. The failure mileage was 84,900.

We purchased a 2013 Ford Edge less than a year ago. Brakes went out. The pedal goes all the way down to floor and makes a hissing sound. I researched online and this is the case for hundreds of 2013 Ford Edge owners. Please look this up on carcomplaints.com This is a life or death safety issue. Our vehicle rolled through a stop sign because the brakes didn't stop us. I'm so worried that I can't have my children ride in this vehicle with me. There was a 13N02 for 2013 Ford Edges replacing the brake booster but not all 2013 ones. My wasn't included. There were no warning lights prior to brakes giving out and they are now so bad. They brake pedal is so low to the floor. I have an appointment on the 6th. They said that this is a known issues with Ford Edges but no recalls have been issued by Ford. Please Talk to Ford so they can issue a recall. There are hundreds of people online with this same problem. Brakes are the scariest issue to have with a car. I don't want hurt/killed.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made a hissing noise while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a tear in the brake booster. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The contact related the failure to NHTSA ID Number: 10054925 (Service Brakes). The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
The brake booster failed, just as is outlined in Ford's Customer Satisfaction Program #13N02, NHTSA #10054925. Ford claims my vehicle was built outside of the dates covered in the CSP and therefore, does not qualify for the warranty extension of the CSP. The booster failure I experienced is identical to that described in the CSP, so it seems obvious that there are more vehicles affected than Ford claims.
The afternoon of Friday, March 25, 2022 I was driving over Balcom Canyon and my brake pedal went all the way to the floor with no response! In my almost 30 years of driving I have NEVER experienced something so terrifying! I literally could've died (or caused a collision with another person, endangering everyone involved). I immediately took my car (2013 Ford Edge Limited) to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle (Valencia). They tell me it's the HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) and will cost me $2,000 to replace! This is an OBVIOUS safety issue and a matter of life or death. Upon doing more research, I have discovered that this is an ongoing issue with Ford vehicles and I feel it is UNACCEPTABLE to allow people to be put in these types of situations KNOWING of this defect! And to not recall/repair the issue"! Shame on Ford! Something needs to be done. They are putting everyone's lives and safety at risk! I purchased my car new on Labor Day 2013 so I've had it 8.5 years BUT it only has 42,000 miles on it! And it is very well-maintained and in immaculate condition. There were no warning lights or sounds or anything. Just no brakes. On a CANYON road! I feel this is absolutely unacceptable and now I am not even comfortable driving my own car anymore! I was already a bit of an "anxious" driver but now I'm totally traumatized and feel I can't trust my own car's braking system"! Just crazy! Please do something about this NOW
Brake pedal intermittently goes to the floor when attempting to stop. The brake booster was replaced by dealership under wgat they called a recall but received vehicle back with the same issue. Dealership is now stating Hydraulic Control Unit is the issue noting repair cost 1,700.
The brake booster and master cylinder failed on my 2013 Ford Edge, which required extreme applications of pressure to the brake pedal to bring the car to a complete stop (the brake pedal would either sink to floor when being depressed or become extremely stiff when attempting to stop). This has been a serious safety risk, as excessive force has been required under normal circumstances to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Independent mechanics were required to replace both the brake booster and master cylinder to resolve the issues.
Oct 2021 spongy brakes all the way to the floor. Master cylinder replaced. February 2022 happened again despite no warning or indication. Now the HCU needs to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle would inadvertently surge forward upon the depression of the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Traction control. Stabiltrak, and ABS system all randomly failed at 69,000 miles. They were intermittently going in and out for two days now come on every time. The car does not even have 100,000 miles. I have replaced the transmission and have countless electrical issues. The blend door actuators are all faulty. Known common issue that will cost a thousand to fix. Master brake cylinder has been replaced and still having faulty petal issues that is no longer covered. The panoramic roof does not work and it is a known issue almost every edge has. And now sever safety issues with the ABS system and traction control. There is no excuse for this poor manufacturing and no recalls to fix them. There were absolutely zero warning signs or check engine lights that came on prior to any of these systems happening. The transmission never through a code at all until after it locked up. The ABS system went out while driving down the road on a rainy day causing me to loose control and luckily I was able to get it into the ditch instead of into oncoming traffic. It put my life and my friends lives in danger. Ford should be sued for this and made to recall every single edge or other vehicle with these components. I have no fixed the issue yet because I wanted to submit this issue to the NHTSA and have it available to be inspected if they wanted. This vehicle is extremely unsafe and has had issues non stop. The transmission went out also while driving on the highway and just locked up causing me to almost get hit from the rear. And the replacement transmission is already having issues again with less than 15,000 miles on it. This
The contact's daughter owns a 2013 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his daughter was at a complete stop, the brake pedal was depressed but felt spongy and failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact-??s daughter continued to depress the brake pedal until the brakes responded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the whistling sound inside the cab was caused by the vacuum booster and the master cylinder failure. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer who advised that the vacuum booster would be replaced under an unknown recall; however, the master cylinder replacement would be an out-of-pocket expense. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
In June 2021 my brake pedal was going to the floor. There was no brake fluid leaking. I took it for diagnostics and was informed (1) the master cylinder needed to be replaced. While it was in the shop they said they had to replace the (2) master cylinder again because the one they received was defective. (3)Then in December after driving approx 2500 mi the pedal went to the floor again. I drove the vehicle (scared out of my mind) 15 miles back to Goodyear. I parked in their open lot instead of pulling up to the front because I was afraid I'd run into the parking curb. I got a call from Goodyear that they were unable to duplicate the problem! It was constant when I was driving to their shop and when I parked it. If they had come out and driven it when I got there they would have definitely confirmed there was NO brake pedal! I worry every time I drive my car and I'm afraid to carry any passengers.
I was told once that body control module wàs bad then I call to get it replaced and they said it wasn't bad. Windshield wipers go when they want then sometimes they won't work at all. Windows will roll down when rolling up or roll up when rolling down. Radio has been delayed. Sometimes definitely not eco boost. Pushes slower than my grandma's 1999 Buick. Brake boost was replaced in July ànd now again I have no breaks whatsoever I have to drive with the emergency brake
The Brakes on my 2013 Ford Edge failed resulting in an accident with my 17 year old son on 1-11-22. The pedal was pressed all the way down, and only the emergency break stopped the vehicle. When pressing it brake, it was as if there were no brakes whatsoever. We had a total brake job done on 8-6-2021. on 9-19-21 the car would hardly come to a complete stop, same issue that my son encountered. The pedal would go all the way down and the pedal would hiss during this time. We had the brake booster replaced. So in a span of 1 month and an half we spent $1,600.25 only for the issue to occur again to put my sons life and others at Risk. I have been doing some research and this is a common issue with this particular vehicle. Ford did do an partial recall of this apparently, but our vehicle was not part of this. There are many instances of the Ford Edge having this exact same problem that Ford does not seem to want to address. This car is unsafe. We will be selling this back to the dealership as we are not comfortable to drive it. There are many parts to the brake system that can cause this from the Power Booster, the ABS injector and the Master Brake Cylinder. There are many instances where this is a very intermittent problem. The issue occurs, and then the mechanics can't find anything wrong. there are hundreds of testimonies online for this vehicle and the issues that it has.
When driving at normal speed (30MPH) break pedal is very soft and goes to floor before stopping the car. Same problem occurred in August 2021. Hampton Ford dealer replaced the booster system which solved the problem temporarily. Problem returned on 12/27/21. Very dangerous. The ABS light has not come on. Dealer has no appointments until 1/18/22.
