CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2016 Edge is starting to show a similar trend to the prior model year of the engine stalling while driving, which owners report is typically caused by low-mileage problems with the throttle body. This is typically considered a safety defect.

2016 Ford Edge titanium approx. Mileage 7600 date: Friday September 8, 2017 time: Approximately 12:45 P.M. location: Southbound on waukegan road/us highway 41 near intersection with casimir pulaski drive (lighted intersection), waukegan Illinois driving southbound in left lane on highway 41 at about 40 mph. Right lane closed for construction work. Weather clear and dry. Roadway flat and straight. Sudden lack of acceleration even with increased pressure on gas pedal. Dash service light (orange warning) 'hill assist not available' with wrench. Also noticed airbag light was lit. Hit brake pedal to light up the warning lights for traffic behind me and also turned on the hazard flashers. Car engine continued to run but the car would not go above about 1 mph. Since right lane and shoulder were not accessible, I turned left at pulaski drive to get onto a slower-moving, less-trafficked roadway and pulled to the shoulder. Car was barely moving. Turned off the ignition and waited approximately 20-30 seconds. Turned the car back on and no error messages were displayed. Tested forward and reverse gears while on the shoulder and felt normal acceleration. Made a U-turn back onto pulaski drive, turned left onto highway 41/waukegan road and drove home. Service on 9/12/17 ' only error code was B1111 described by tech as 'ABS parking brake', code cleared by tech. Service on 9/19/17 ' complete diagnostics run ' no error codes. No resolution.

Throttle body failure - while driving on the freeway, there was a clunk sound and a wrench symbol appeared on our display and the car lost all power. We could not accelerate and had to carefully coast to nearest offramp. We tried to restart car and it did turnover but the same problem repeated after about one minute. It appears this is a common problem with a variety of Ford models. No recall on our vehicle. Extremely dangerous issue.

On 4/4/17 my wife was driving our 2016 Ford Edge (titanium edition) and was talking to me on the phone when the vehicle suddenly shook, lost power, and lost acceleration ability. The yellow wrench, check engine light and air bag light appeared and the power train fault and hill climb assist not available messages appeared on the display. My wife was on the highway going about 70mph when this occurred. She had to try to coast over to the shoulder to pull over to the side of the road.

My wife was on her way to a business meeting. Vehicle was stopped at a red light. Started to turn right, hit accelerator pedal and vehicle barely moved. Lost power, could only go 5 mph. Wrench light came on, as did AWD. Created traffic hazzard as vehicles backed up behind on city street. Creeped to a parking area and had vehicle towed to dealer for evaluation and repair. Cause was powertrain control module (PCM) which was not replaced (following current Ford policy), but reprogrammed, meaning this could happen again in an even more dangerous setting, such as proceeding through an intersection or on a highway.

Driving down the road and the vehicle suddenly went to idle. Had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. The car was still idling but when I tried to give it gas, nothing happened. I shut the car off, restarted and it worked fine. Approx. 10 miles later, did the same thing. Car only has 9,200 miles. I drive the interstate daily and this is going to be very dangerous if it happens there. Will be at the dealer at 9:00am sharp tomorrow.
