TOOK TO SHOP FOR A OIL CHANGE,GOT A CALL THAT THE TRANNY WAS LEAKING. TOLD BY SERVICE ADVISER THAT IT WOULD BE A COUPLE OF DAYS THAT THE AXLE WAS ON BACK ORDER, THIS WAS ON 2-3-2010. HAVE GOTTEN THE RUN AROUND FROM CROWN FORD IN NASHVILLE TN. SERVICE ADVISER FINALLY TOLD ME IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE AXLE AND FORD WAS REDOING IT. AT 1 MONTH WENT TO COMPLAIN TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER SUE STILTS. I ASK FOR A LITTLE COMPENSATION, SHE JUMPED OUT OF HER CHAIR AND SLAMMED HER FIST ON THE DESK AND SAID THAT I WOULD GET NOTHING FROM THEM, THAT IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM, THAT FORD HAD A DESIGN FLAW WITH THIS PARTICULAR AXLE AND TO CALL FORD. I CALLED FORD AND TALKED TO ALISE AND SHE WAS VERY NICE, SHE EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE I-6 TRANNY AND WAS HAVING TO BE MODIFIED AND THAT WAS THE HOLD UP. SHE COMPENSATED ME BY GIVING ME OIL CHANGES AND TIRE ROTATIONS FOR FREE FOR THE NEXT 45000 MILES AND PROMISED THAT MY PART WOULD BE EXPEDITED TO THE DEALERSHIP SINCE MINE HAD BEEN IN THE SHOP THE LONGEST. ON 3-11-10 FORD CALLED TO TELL ME THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD RECEIVED THE PART BUT THAT THE TECH WAS IN SCHOOL FOR A WEEK, THIS SCARES ME, IS HE LEARNING HOW TO PUT THE MODIFIED PART IN? IT HAS BEEN 6 WEEKS WITHOUT MY ESCAPE, THEY DID GIVE ME A LOANER CAR UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY,A HYUNDAI SALANTA BUT THATS ANOTHER STORY. SO IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS, DONT HESITATE TO CALL FORD. THIS YEAR AND MODEL NEED TO BE RECALLED FOR THE AXLE. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS TRANNY.

Wife used 09 Escape 4x4 XLT for her cleaning business. Check Engine Light came on yesterday. So soon?! It's @Dealership today. They found a transmission leak. They said parts on back order. What, we had it for a year, though giving it some miles, surprised to hear it needs parts...front axle, bushing, and a seal. There's a groove? I commented that I thought maybe this is due to them overfilling trans fluid a month or so prior. That is what they informed us of then when we notified a leak back then. But I was told that actually it may have helped to keep lubricated.

It's nice that it's covered under warranty but I worry about the same issue repeating when it's not covered. No recall? after searching by vin at Ford's website. Nice loaner, 09 Taurus (speaking of trans issues ha ha), but good looking car! Even though we have a nice loaner I hope this doesn't take 3 weeks as I have read on another complaint. We were told it could be a week which would be good now that I see what it could take.

Escape V6

Very nice car until this . Leaking from transaxle. There is a service bulletin to replace a bushing so ford knows they have a problem

Update from Mar 2, 2010: The bushing around the left front axle wore prematurely causing the seal to leak and axle damage

Escape XLT 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 16,000 miles

I brought my Escape in to the dealership because I noticed leaks on the pavement and I called the dealership and they stated it was a seal leak and they also replaced the axle. I picked it up a week later and noticed more leakage on the driveway. I took the escape back to the dealership and they said it was a bushing..... My car has been at the dealership for almost 3 weeks and I've been calling the dealership and the part is on a galactic backorder!!!!! (whatever that means) It is very frustrating because I live in maine and I am used to my Escape. They gave me a rental which is not all wheel drive and is tiny.
