CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Ford Escape has an acceptable complaint history so far, with leaking rear window problems showing up as the main concern so far. NHTSA complaint data shows an early pattern of problems with stalling while driving.

Another concern is the 2012 Escape rolled onto its roof during an NHTSA side impact test so it only received a marginal side impact rating ... not good.

AC started blowing hot air. They recharge it and it works for 15 minutes and stops and starts running high pressure. After a $250 fix for 15 minutes, now they say it's clogged and 1300 bucks to fix. At 50,000 miles. Bullshit. Mechanic says he's seen it 30-35 times but Ford won't recall.

In January 2016 the fan on my 2012 Ford Escape stopped working with only 27,000 miles on it, took it to the dealership. Of course the warranty is expired. they replaced the Resistor and it worked fine after that.

Yesterday, the air conditioning stopped working. I now have 29,100 miles on it. Blows hot air, not cold at all! Had a friend check the Freon level and it is running extremely high. Taking it to dealership today

I bought my 2012 Ford Escape as Factory Certified vehicle. They provided the carfax and it didn't list any history of an accident. It still doesn't. My warranty expired in April. Now, in May, I had to take it in for the first time because the fan would run really high and the A/C stopped working completely. Last summer it worked great. The mechanic I took it to, Nancy, had worked for a dealership for over 20 years and opened up her own shop many years ago. She is completely honest and didn't even charge me because the problem she found, she could not fix. She called and asked, "when was this car in a front end collision". I said, "Never". She said, "OH yes it has and the dealer who did the 172 point inspection, replaced the grill on the front end of this car. The cross bow is bent behind the grill and the condenser is bowed" However, she said it won't affect the safety of this vehicle. However, your car's resting psi in over 300 and it should be at 80. We spent all afternoon trying to evacuate the refrigerant but can't before it will break our machine. She had to refer me to an a/c tech. He told me the Ford Escapes have this problem and Ford really should be doing a recall on them. Their condenser is so fine that the system is clogging up and not working. It may cost between $600 and $1,200 to get it all out of there. The Ford dealer tried to put the blame on me. They sold me a vehicle they knew had a bent cross bow and dented condenser. LIARS! THIEVES! Never again!

Our vehicle is 3 yrs old, a 2012 Escape. Besides running noisy, the air conditioner decided to crap out. It only blows warm air. No warning or anything!!! The fan was loud when the AC was running but it always has been. We have never had a car's AC stop working under 100k miles and definitely not 3 yrs old! It has 72k miles on it and that's it.

Cooling fans run on high, AC system has high pressure, no cold air. We heard a grinding noise one day and everything went south from there. Been told by a couple mechanics it is likely the Accumulator failing and likely debris thru the system. Recommends a new Accumulator and compressor and do an AC flush kit thru the system prior to installing new components. I have been too busy and need to save up for the repairs but sounds like a common issue for Escapes from 09-12.

I have been the sole owner of my 2012 Escape since I purchased new off the lot.

Since my date of purchase, I have had a speaker fail, the front grill fall off and most annoying of all; the A/C system fail 3 times!!!

Some would define my car as a "lemon" but apparently not Ford.

I had my A/C system completely replaced twice under warranty and then one cold winter day I am driving my car, only months after the 60,000km warranty had expired and again the system failed.

This time I was in a battle (and currently still am) with Ford and the dealership (Yonge Steeles) to cover the cost of the repairs.

The system was replaced again and now I am experiencing problems with my battery or electrical system.

Hope not to many of you have the problems with your Escape as I have had with mine.

4 months after the warranty expires after 3 years, the first warm day (85 degrees) the AC is blowing hot air on our 8 hour drive. Had only 21700 miles on the damn thing ......heading to my nearest Honda dealership to trade it in. I had a Honda CRV with over 100,000 miles before any major problems happened (needed new sway bar). I'm totally disappointed in my "Ford experience" as they call it in they're commercials.

Noticed A/C was blowing hot air on first hot day of the summer. Checked system pressure to see if required to be recharged. System was extremely overpressurized. Relieved some pressure and the system worked for approximately 10-15 minutes. A/C immediately began blowing hot air on a day in mid-80s. Taken back to dealer. After 2 hours of troubleshooting, dealer recommends replacement of Thermostatic Expansion Valve, Accumulator, and system recharge. Estimates approximately $300 in parts and $300-400 in labor. Not covered under warranty...

The AC stop working few days after we bought the car. It was under warranty so the repair didn't cost a dollar but the car stayed at the dealer for one month! One year later the same problem is back but no more warranty... They offer to pay for 50% of the cost.

Update from Jul 15, 2014: So we thought 1000$ was a bit to expensive we brought the vehicule elsewhere. It took 15 minutes and nothing to be replace!

Update from Jul 22, 2014: It's broken again... Not sure if it's the same problem yet.

Update from Dec 18, 2016: We'll never know! We bought a Journey instead.
