Ford has had problems with this transmission for years. I hope they stand behind this one. It's a rebuilt title so that usually gives them an out.😔

Escape Titanium 4 cyl Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

@ 40K miles we noticed a little flutter around 45MPH. The dealership was told each time we went in for oil changes that it was getting worse. They took it for test drives where they did not feel anything, but never hooked the transmission up to pressure gauges.

Now out of warranty and getting worse where we had to keep it in sport mode, we took it to an independent transmission shop who did do a check up. He found the fluid 1/2 QT. low on a sealed unit! this transmission you cannot check or add your own fluid. He was puzzled because there were no signs of leaks. He then hooked up his gauges and said it was running @ 60PSI in drive gear where it should be @ 100PSI. He told us there would have to be a crack internally.

Then the bad news... the car being so new there are no parts available and the whole transmission would need to be replaced. Then more bad news, it would be with the same transmission from Ford. Not a fix just a band aide to get me another 50 - 80 K in miles. After talking to him we went to the dealer with his write up and they agreed that we needed a new transmission with a higher cost to do the job. Having bought four new Fords since 2017, I am worried about what is coming my way with the chatter online about Fords transmissions.
