I was driving on the interstate going highway speed of 65 mph and the accelerator was stuck open and I could not slow down. The engine stayed at a high rpm. I had to press with a lot of force to slow down and come to a stop with the engine still at high rpm and had trouble stopping. Luckily, where I live there's not much traffic, and I made it to a shop with this issue. Upon investigating, the accelerator cable became frayed where it enters the sheath and gets stuck there. The Ford dealer didn't have a replacement in stock or any nationwide. So I went to a junk yard to find one and found the same vehicle that had the same frayed accelerator cable. I located a newer, second vehicle with less mileage with same cable that matched without any fraying. In the meantime, I ordered a new accelerator cable through Ford, but it was backordered several months and tied up in shipping. With this happening on these two same vehicles, I thought I should report it. Thank you.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford F-250. While driving 5 mph, the contact heard something snap on his vehicle. The contact pulled the vehicle over and discovered that the rear strap connected to the fuel tank detached from the vehicle. The contact wired the tank back into place and drove home. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 11V385000 (fuel system, gasoline). The contact informed the manufacturer of the failure and was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall; therefore, he would be responsible for the repairs. A dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford F-250. While operating the vehicle at highway speeds, both fuel straps fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 11V385000 (fuel system, gasoline); although, the vehicle exhibited the same failure as listed in the recall campaign. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
Filled the gas tank full the drove down the street at 45 mph. About 1 mile into the drive the rear fuel tank strap broke in half and the rear end of the fuel tank fell to the ground spilling most of the fuel. The strap look corroded.
Rear fuel tank strap failed, causing fuel tank to drag on ground while vehicle was in motion. See safety recall 11S21 which recalled fuel tank straps on other 1999 Ford trucks including F-150 and F-250 light duty but not F-250 Super Duty. Recall should be extended to 1999 F-250 Super Duty.
While inspecting my vehicle for fuel strap recall 11S21, it was noted that the frame of my F150 was rusted through at the location where the new strap would be installed. My Ford dealer told me that they could not replace the recalled strap until the frame was repaired (at my expense). Ford does not repair the frame under the recall, only replaces the strap. I feel that Ford should do the frame repair as part of the recall, as the strap was less rusty than the frame. The straps, in my opinion, were of similar quality as the frame, only thinner metal. My truck has been very well maintained, but the undercarriage has been rusting excessively since new. I own much older Ford vehicles with no such issue; my opinion is that Ford sourced poor quality materials when building these model year trucks. I also have rust holes in the transmission dipstick tube and exhaust manifolds. No reason for this excessive corrosion, since I have been diligent about maintaining this truck. My 1982 Ford van has no such issues, and it has not been cared for as well as this truck. Thanks for your help.
Ford recall 11S21 gas tank strap recall performed at lucas Ford in burlinton NJ. They said the strap pulled through rotted frame and Ford said because the recall only says they have to replace rusted straps they will not repair. They told them to put new straps on leaving rear one not connected. If this is a safety recall this is a fail as my truck could still have the tank drop and burst into flames. This is the same as Toyota recall for poorly treated frames just Ford was allowed to only replace 20 dollars straps that probably aren't even the problem.

The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the filler neck and the failed bolt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacture was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 250,000
Fuel tank now leaks after the Ford dealer replaced the straps (11S21 recall). They said they will not cover the tank replacement even though the tank did not leak before they replaced the straps!
While driving, there was a loud explosion, then engine was running rough and loud. Mechanic stated that due to a faulty design, the #7 spark plug had been shot from the engine, damagine the ignition coil and allowing fuel to spray from the injectors onto the now loose spark plug. Mechanic stated I was lucky this did not result in an engine fire. Engine is Ford 5.4L V8. Mechanic explained that the design of the engine means that the aluminum heads have approx. Half as many threads as a normal spark plug, meaning that this is a frequent occurrence and Ford is aware of the fire risk but has chosen not to address.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, she heard a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact maneuvered to the shoulder and noticed that the fuel tank was detaching from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop. The dealer stated that they need to replace the fuel tank strap and the brake line. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they stated that there was no recall. The failure and current mileages were 81,000.
