CarComplaints.com Notes: Even though the first model year of a major redesign should typically be avoided, Ford did a good job & the 2008 Ford Focus doesn't appear to have any major defects.

That said, the following model years of this 2nd generation Focus (2009-2011) do appear to be slightly better.

bad motor mount

These Generation of Ford Focus' have a serious issue with motor mounts failing. There should be a recall. Mine rattles the passenger seat at a stop light it rattles so bad.

Look all around the internet and you will see these cars have issues with bad motor mounts causing vibration.

There is an ex-Ford Mechanic on YouTube who even does a video on these (video called > Ford Focus Engine Mount Vibration Repair by FordTechMakuloco )

This car had 40,000km or less when this started it has about 48,000km on it now. I finally have to do something about it.

(reasons like this are why people buy Toyota Corollas, Honda Civics. Have a friend that bought a new 2006 Toyota Corolla in 2006 and he's replaced the muffler and very little else that's not normal wear and tear, we bought this in 2008 brand new)

Update from Dec 6, 2015: Update as of Nov 27th, 2015. MOTOR MOUNTS REPLACED!

After taking the 2008 Ford Focus SE into the Ford Dealer Nov 18th, 2015 to Diagnose the issue with Vibrations coming from the car.... at idle, in gear, at 60-65 Km/hr and reverse gear at idle.....

The Ford Dealer determined it was the main engine Mount Part # 5S4Z-6038-CB (gel / hydraulic filled mount, visible with hood up) as well as the "Dog Bone" Lower Trans Mount - Part # 8S4Z-6068-A

They said the other trans mount Part # 8S4Z-7M121-A might be worth changing but try those 2 first and see what vibration was still there. When the mechanic went underneath lifting on the engine & the service guy sat inside the car to listen for vibrations, those 2 were definitely culprits so they said. They recommended for sure 2 out of 3 Mounts to cure the most if not all the vibration issues i had with this Focus. The mechanic himself had owned that generation of Focus (2008-2011) and said he had to put the upper Mount in his.

I went into the Parts department and asked for a printout on prices of parts. I asked do you sell more of one mount than the other. And they said it was pretty even among all 3 across 1 year.

Everything I have read online amongst the first generation Focus from North America to this ....THEY ALL HAVE MOTOR MOUNT ISSUES.

My mother who is in her 60's drove this car from new till now and she doesn't do burnouts or any crazy driving, so it is not driver abuse. THE CAR HAS 49,000 kilometres / 30,500 miles on it. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!!

The Dealer quoted me around $600-700 to change it all.

My Family Mechanic used the Ford Parts ( don't replace with after market as i've heard & my mechanic agreed the after market mounts are even more junk) and he replaced the Main Mount & Dog bone parts & labour was around $310 and i got a good deal at that, most places would charge WAY more than that.

FORD NEEDS TO RECALL these motor mounts on Ford Focus' ...but they won't Because technically they aren't unsafe ....it's just they start to vibrate, because the rubber tears, dry up or the gel starts to leak.

But they all have this issue.

This car which was bought new in 2008 in Canada has 49,000km and has already needed -Front Sway Bar Links -2 of 3 Motor Mounts ( and frankly i think that last mount will be needed later as there is a little vibration left) -Lower Control Arm Bushings are already dried up and cracking.

Not Impressed with Ford let me tell you. There are some other minor stuff i won't get into.

I've Always been into buy whatever you want for a car mindset, but these last 2 years i've changed that to buy what's made in North America because we are in trouble. Our last 3 cars have been Ford Ford Dodge ranging from 2008-2012. And I now see why people went and bought Japanese.

After my last 2 Ford's i think unfortunately that's on my horizon.
