CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2011 Fusion builds off the 2010's reputation. That's not a good thing.

The first thing that jumps out is the ridiculous amount of power steering complaints. It grinds, it squeals, and it eventually just fails.

And if losing power steering isn’t enough for you, how about a sudden loss of engine power? That combination is enough to achieve clunker status.

Car just turned over 100,000 miles. No real issues, but occasionally, the transmission slipped slightly. at high speeds sustained (75-80 mph) a little wrench would lite up in the dash. mechanics were not able to diagnose. Day of incident. The car slipped badly in reverse. No other issues, until the car started jolting, pulled off the highway, and the car would not move forward or backward. Mechanic indicated he had just finished one of these rebuilds. Apparently a bearing failed, causing metal contamination, and the gears in the transmission were trashed due to the metal flying around. Transmission rebuild was the result.

Like the car, gets good mileage, but this seemed very premature to happen, even though people do complain about hard shifting with these cars.

My husband and I will never purchase another Ford again in our lifetime, nor will we shop Bill Collins Ford in Louisville, KY. The first year that I purchased the vehicle I went to Bill Collins Ford service department more than twice about the transmission, each time the service employee dismissed my concerns stating it was the new type of transmission in the car. I listened to Bill Collins and continued to drive my brand new Ford. I performed every service required at Bill Collins Ford, including the transmission services. To my surprise, my transmission started slipping at 86,500 miles. I had purchased an after market extended warranty from Bill Collins that ran out at 85,000 miles.

When I took the car into Bill Collins, there solution was to charge me $5,500 for a new transmission, not including parts or labor. I contacted Ford and Ford sent me back to Bill Collins. I tried contacting Bill Collins Service Manager and we kept playing phone tag. Then it happened - the transmission went completely on I65 North with no warning! Luckily no one was hurt. I found an independent dealer to replace the transmission for me and with a warranty that I could live with...out of pocket it was $3,300 & I am still making payments to Ford. I will never purchase a Ford again, not will I shop at Bill Collins. In fact, I tell anyone that will listen of my experience, I HATE Fords and Bill Collins.

I bought my Ford Fusion new in 2011 with about 8 miles on the car. After about a year I started noticing the car lurching or jumping forward when I would slow down or speed up. Eventually the car started knocking and bouncing while driving. At this point I took it to my Ford dealer who after having it for the weekend, said it was fine. They told me to drive it to them while the problems were happening. So about two weeks later the car broke down while I was making a left turn in oncoming traffic. This time the dealership tells me the transmission went and they would have to rebuild it. Two weeks later the dealership finished the work. I don't believe the problem is remedied.

I have had this new car in the shop twice and no one seems to know how to fix it. It down shifts real hard at times and gets stuck in gears with no get up and go. Local Ford Dealership after a week in the shop said they had fixed the problem and within two days it was coming out of gear and down shifting real hard again. I am very upset that I will have to buy another car due to not feeling safe.

Fusion SE 3.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

The transmission slips and shifts hard after setting for a while. Had the car at the dealer for over a month now. They keep on telling me it will be fixed any day but thats been over two weeks now. They won't even give us a beater car to drive. All I can say is screw Ford and their car of the year. This is an ongoing problem and needs to be a recall from Ford. DON'T BUY A FUSION or you will be sorry you did. Look online and see for yourself.
