CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2000 Honda Accord suffers from widespread transmission failure, subframe rust, & problems with the airbag system (SRS). We recommend avoiding this model year like the plague.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Subframe rust near the front passenger side wheel has become a problem recently, due to the poorly positioned A/C drain hose directly above that area. Repair cost to the subframe is over $2,000.

The SRS warning light likes to come on due to a defective seat belt sensor -- typically the driver's side. This sensor is covered under Honda's lifetime seat belt warranty, but some dealers charge a $100+ "diagnostic fee" or tell customers the entire SRS unit ($800) is bad.

I have a 2000 Honda Accord with only 50,000 miles and the sensor system in the front passenger seat that detects whether a person is properly seated is defective because my SRS warning light constantly stays on during vehicle operation. I am utterly disappointed given its early failure rate since I have been a loyal Honda/Acura customer for a very long time. I hope there is a recall or extended warranty to cover this problem. It appears many 2000-2001 Accord/3.2tl have this problem.

I have a 2000 Honda Accord ex, my SRS light has been on for several months. I cannot afford to have the repair. Then recently, I received an extended warranty from Honda saying the SRS has had problems and if you had or have a problem with it, they will repair it free of charge. However, it is a 10 yr or 150,000 mi. Limit. Well, I commute to work and I have over 197,000 miles on my car. I still have the same problem as everyone else, I just have to use my car more. I feel if they know the problem is defective parts and a safety issue, there should be no question that everyone is covered.

My 2000 Honda Accord LX battery finally died. A new battery was replaced the same day and now the SRS light stays on and won't go away. I contacted a local Honda dealership and they want to charge me $90 just for diagnostic and the cost of repair. I searched on the internet and realized that is a common problem with many Honda and Acura car models after any power related issue.

SRS light stays on all the time. Did some research found a lot of similar problems. Have the light reset once, but the SRS light came back on a few days later. Searched NHTSA dot website, found, Honda recently issued recall on defected airbag sensor. I thought my car is the same problem. Took it to the dealer, diagnosesd as airbag control unit need replacement which will cost over $900. Decline the fix. But have to pay $90 for checking it out. This light will remind me how bad Honda treat it's defect on safety feature. And how ironic it claim in the recent ad that it cares about safety not only inside the car but also outside the car.

SRS light came on 2000 Honda Accord ex. Honda dealer diagnosis was SRS control unit and a driver side seat belt buckle. Supposedly the $44 buckle was under warranty but the $600 SRS control unit is not. Why would a functional buckle with inop sensor be under warranty and the SRS control unit (SRS brains) not be" how can both fail at the same time" something doesn't sound right.

Since year 2000 I have been bringing my Honda Accord to Honda service center for maintenance and repairs. The SRS light had been going off and when I took the car to Honda of concord, they just reset the SRS light and blamed my cell phone as the possible reason. Since then I avoided placing my cell phone on the passenger seat but the SRS light would still turn on after couple of weeks. I have inquired from them if it was a defect and they said "no". this has been going on until in 2004 when I took my car to Honda of oakland when they decided that it was the opds that was faulty and they changed it (charged me $700). After a week that it was changed, the SRS light turned on again, and every maintenance service time they just reset the light. 2 weeks ago, Honda of oakland told me that they will replace the opds sensor and will refund me of the $700 that I paid last year. Am supposed to bring my car on Tuesday March 28, 2006 to Honda of oakland service center so they can change the opds. They now claim that it is covered by 5 year warranty (last year they said it wasn't covered). I haven't missed any maintenance service for more than 5 years now and on every visit I have complained about this SRS light malfunction. What's the best thing I should do?

The SRS light turned on by itself and remains on. I have 80K miles on the car. I researched many sites and noticed that this is a very common problem and most of them have not got a satisfactory fix. I contacted the dealer and they mentioned $99 just to diagnose. I then sent a fax to american Honda requesting them details of previous occurrence and number of complaints. They declined to provide me the number of official complaints they have received and said they will not help me and I would have to deal it with the dealers. They also mentioned that the complaints in the internet may be bogus.

I have been to the Honda dealer/service 4 times to fix a SRS malfunction. Today I went to the spirit Honda service department because SRS light was on. The assistant service advisor claimed the technician could find no hard problems, "which would result in the SRS light turning on. He originally blamed me, but when questioned he retracted. Then, charged $43 dollars for a problem, which he could not figure out. Honda Accord is under warranty for 5 more months. The cost for repair at that time will be overwhelming. As the SRS problem has been a recurring. The consistent failure of the SRS on 2000 Honda Accord coupe is a problem that should be investigated. The monetary loss, which I have incurred maybe due to a problem caused by the manufacturer. When I did a search on SRS problems for Honda Accord I found I am not alone. There seems to be a significant portion of consumers who have an SRS problem. It should be investigated by Honda.

I own a 2000 Honda Accord ex. My SRS light came on at approximately 80,000 miles. My warranty expired at 75,000 miles. According to the Honda dealership, they have tried to re-set the unit but it will have to be replaced. I have spoken to another Honda Accord owner at the dealership who states the same thing has happen to him but he had the unit replaced. According to your website, I see that this problem is happening to a lot of Honda owners.
