Notes: The 2005 Honda Accord suffers from transmission failure. It's not a huge widesperad problem like in prior years, but definitely still something to consider.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Transmission failure problems have been a huge problem for the Accord & several other Honda models all through the early 2000s model years. Honda eventually extended the transmission warranty to 93 months/109k miles for the 2000-2001 Accords as a class action lawsuit settlement, but owners of other Accord model years with transmission problems are out of luck.

2005 Honda Accord has fuel pump issues which are consistent with safety recall. Honda dealerships state my specific vehicle (by VIN#) is not included in the recall, and therefore will not make repairs related to the recall.

Instrument lights in panel for HVAC/audio system are not lit. One night they stopped working. Exact same issue as this: Make: Honda model: Accord year: 2005 complaint number: 10241768 summary: The audio unit display lights do not come on when the headlights are turned on. The radio dial, clock, and HVAC control switches are not lit. The only light on in the area is the small green light showing which HVAC button has been selected. The instrument panel lights do light up are controllable with the dimmer switch. This problem came on suddenly - one night they worked when I turned on the headlights and the next night they did not work. So far this is a consistent problem. I have checked the fuses; none were blown. As a driver I can cope with the problem this time of the year, but as winter sets in and the windshield needs to be cleared of interior fog with the defroster I will not be able to see which control to hit creating an unsafe situation. This was/is a problem with earlier model years (2003-2004) of this model run. In 2007 Honda issued a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty extension letter for these years. There is also a service bulletin for these repairs.

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. While driving the vehicle intermittently stalls without any prior warnings. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer several times. His vehicle was repaired according to recall #07V097000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). However the repair did not remedy the failure. The dealer then updated the ECM. A week later the failure resurfaced. A technician had to repair the wiring harness from underneath of the ignition, but the vehicle continued to fail. The manufacuturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. The failure and current mileages were 68,0000.

Starting at around 70K miles, the radio display backlight does not light up intermittently. Although the radio and controls work, it is impossible to view the time, radio volume, or station number without the assistance of an independent light source such as the overhead light. There has been a recall for this issue for the 2003-2004 model year. This recall should be extended to the 2005 model year as well because there is no major difference in audio unit design.

I was driving my Honda Accord 2005 ex to work today from burke to ft belvoir, va, and 25 minutes into the drive, the car stalled on fairfax county in the passing lane. This has happened twice, each about 3 weeks apart. When the car stalls, the ignition immobilizer switch light immediately flashes. I have to stop the moving car, and restart it, which is extremely dangerous. I called Honda, and was told that there is not a recall for this symptom. The symptoms is similar to what is referenced on this website.

The audio unit display lights go dim 1-2 minutes after the headlights are turned on. The radio dials and HVAC control switches also go completely out. The only light on in the area is the small green light showing which HVAC button has been selected. The instrument panel lights do light up and are controllable with the dimmer switch. I have checked the fuses; none were blown. I can cope with the problem by turning on the interior overhead light to see the controls.just very inconvenientand creating a unsafe condition. This is a problem with earlier model years (2003-2004) of this model run. In 2007 Honda issued a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty extension letter for these years. There is also a service bulletin for these repairs. Perhaps Honda should havne extended this warranty extension to include the 2005 models.

  • 40,000 miles
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. The contact had a 40,000 mile repair performed at the dealer. Four days later, the gauge control module shorted out internally. The dealer attempted to reprogram the module, but was unsuccessful. The module was sent out to paolo alto, ca to be reprogrammed. Once it was completed, the module was returned to the dealer for installation in the vehicle. A couple of months later, while driving at an unknown speed with the cruise control activated, it would not disengage when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was locked in the cruise control mode and it continued moving towards oncoming traffic. The contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into two vehicles. The contact and another person were injured. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed. The investigator stated that the instrument cluster module caused the crash. The failure mileage was 40,000.

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 65 mph, all of the warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The engine abruptly shut off and the vehicle could not be restarted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the failure was related to the battery. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred twice more. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic again and the alternator was replaced; however, there was no resolution to the malfunction. Recently, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the air condition system component. The vehicle was repaired and there had been no further occurrences. The failure mileage was 34,000 and current mileage was 34,300. Updated 10/14/08 updated 10/23/08.

If you leave the radio on for more than 2 minutes with the car off, it refuses to start. Either must jump start or wait 10 minutes or so before the engine will start again. This has happened 4-5 times. After starting, everything is good until you happened to do this again.

Car refuses to start. Used a jumpstart from a friend to come home. Checked the battery charge indicator - shows green (meaning fully charged) - but car does not start with that battery. Replaced the battery with a new one and there seems to be other problems. Dashboard light seem to flicker every now and then. Not sure what the exact issue is.

Six changer cd player overheats. After 30 seconds of playing time, the panel turns extremely hot and cd error message flashes. When the cd is removed, it is extremely hot to the touch where it must be placed on the passenger seat. If more than one cd is in the six cd changer, the panel gets very hot and subsequently the panel display goes blank. The radio will not work until the unit has cooled. There is a potential danger for fire or other system failure. Clearly a safety hazard.

Our 2005 Honda Accord severely overheated while driving in extremely congested traffic on a nearly 100 degree day. The dealer, where the car has been serviced continuously since new, verified that there was no fuse for the cooling fan. There is no credible answer for this absence.

: the contact stated during sudden, hard braking the vehicle pulled to the right. Then a few days later, during normal braking, the vehicle pulled to the left. The dealership was unable to determine a problem. Then while traveling 30 mph on a slushy downhill road the brake pedal was depressed and the brakes did not respond. The vehicle rear ended another vehicle. There was a police report taken at the scene. The driver received minor injuries. The vehicle was driven to the dealership, where repairs were made for property damage. The dealership was unable to determine the problem with the brakes. The vehicle was taken to another dealership and an independent repair shop, which was unable to determine the problem as well. There was a rough idle when coming to a stop. The headlights flicker at times. Updated 07/05/06.

Radio reception. We have the Accord with the satellite/radio combination with a cd player. The antenna is located in the rear window. The radio reception, in either am or fm is unacceptable. The local Honda garage has offered to replace the radio but insists that the problem is in the antenna design. The reception is terrible. Stations that are easily heard in other vehicles we own or have owned is simply much better. This is annoying at best. I would not have purchased this vehicle had I known the radio reception was so bad.
