CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Honda Accord has several serious defects – poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

I have read most of the complaints my story is no different. I contacted Honda 10/14 to open a case. Honda's case worker contacted me today to inform me it's not a know problem after reading all of the complaints, that's simply ridiculous. I directed her to anyone of a number of websites, she stated it's not their policy to review these. The second time I took the car back in September the Dealership said Honda is working on a fix but it seems their taking their time. The Case worker informed me that I should read the owners manual and understand that cars make noises and the noise is not affecting the drive or safety concerns of the vehicle. This is an unacceptable answer and the noise is distracting. How do we discern this acceptable noise from a real safety concern with the brakes? Honda as with any reputable company, should step up and take ownership here and do the right thing and recall as everyone agrees. As to the comments regarding the noise and that we should all suck it up and get over it. Wonder which Dealership he/she works for? Probably not any of the ones we bailed out, yah think?

Brakes started squealing when I applied them, not just going slow, but on the highway. Took to the dealership where I have purchased 6 hondas, and they stated there was no problem with it, and they couldn't hear the brakes squeal. Figured they never even looked at the car since it was brand new.

I bought a brand new 2009 Honda Accord Sedan V6 EX-L from Balise Honda in West Springfield, Massachusetts. After 3 months of owning the car, I started to notice a problem with the brakes. There's a very loud squeaky noise every times I step on the brake. The noise is so loud, it sounds like a bus coming to a stop. The brakes noise is so annoying I'm already starting to feel very disappointed with the car. I don't expect this to happen with a brand new Accord. I had a 2002 Accord before and I love the car I never had any issue with it, this is the reason I went on and bought another Accord. At first I thought it was just my bad luck for picking the new Accord with brake problem, but after doing some online research I found out there are other '08 and '09 accord owners who has the same problem with their brakes squealing. I'm not really sure what to do now, I really don't want to bring the car back to the dealer and end up with a huge bill. I hope Honda would have a recall on this issue so I can get this fix.

So my brakes started squeaking in Feb 09, I leased the car in Dec 08. I keep on calling the dealership about the issue and they say a recall is pending. So a recall has been pending for 7 months already? This is getting crazy. People all around look when I stop since its so loud. Time to take action and call and write corporate. This is a nice new car, it should not have these issues!

Purchased new Honda Accord EX. Nicest car I have ever owned. I have been a Honda owner for the past 20 years. Breaks start squeaking first two months I owned the car. After taking the car to the dealer 3 different times, they finally tell me I need new back brakes which they will gladly fix for $200. This is after only 15,000 miles on the car. In addition, they tell me the front brakes will continue to squeak. I tell them they can have the car back on the spot.

Less than a week later I trade my Honda in, for a BMW. I will never buy Honda again. They need to stand behind their product!

Accord EX - L 4 cyl

Like everyone else, my brakes squeak like crazy. Believe it or not, I drove my 1992 Accord DX for 17 years (330,000+ miles) before I finally broke down (well, actuall, the 92 finally broke down) and bought a new car! Now I am so disappointed in my new car and its terrible brakes. My kids used to be embarrassed to ride in my '92 because it was so old, but I'm more embarrassed to ride in my new car.

I, too, have been to the dealer many times - to no avail. I heard the same thing as everyone else - glazing from sitting on the lot, grime and sand build up from weather, and most insulting - that I was braking wrong. At one point the service tech told me I needed to "dynomite" the brakes more. Little does he know how much I'd like to dynomite the whole darn car! I don't see much mention of the Lemon Law here - so I'm assuming that isn't an option since it really isn't a safety issue - although I'm wondering how I will know when it is time to replace my brakes since they squeak now?

Another minor problem I'm also having which I could probably ignore if I wasn't so pIssed about the brakes is that the carpet on the passenger side front pulls out from under the door frame, leaving a ragged edge exposed....So here I am in a $26,000 car with exposed carpet and brakes that sound like crap! I wish I could figure out how to fix my '92 and go back to driving that! I'm so, so, so disappointed after waiting 17 years to buy a new Honda that I ended up with this clunker! It really makes me want to cry. BTW, I'm at a point where the service department won't return my calls....frustrating because you know if I didn't make my payment, Honda Financial would be all over my phone line - or credit score.

This is my fifth Honda in about 25 years and the second one with break squeal problem. My last Honda with a break problem was a CRV which the dealer was able to fix. With this 2009 Accord, the dealer says Honda Corporate knows about the problem and there is no fix. If Corporate knows about the problem, then they should either issue a recall and fix it, or they should let people know about it before they purchase. I have a couple of other problems with the car that the dealer is giving me a hard time about fixing and I'm now thinking of looking at other car companies for my next car. I've always come to Honda for their dependability, but I'm now wondering if they are letting their quality (and their loyal customers) slip away.

I've started a blog about this terrible problem, please stop by and show your support, the more noise we make the sooner we can demand they fix this problem.

http://fixourbrakes.blogspot.com/

Fix our brakes Honda! I've only had my car six months. The driver-side front brake squeals so loud that I can sometimes hear it with my windows up and the radio on. I've been to the mechanic four times (almost five!) and I've had to open an issue with corporate customer service. Last Friday, Honda Corporate told me they won't fix it! I'm at their mercy and now they won't help me (or all the other people reporting this problem), so I wanted to spread the word. If you're thinking about getting an Accord, search the Internet first to see all the problems that customers are reporting. I foolishly bought mine because I thought it wont happen to me. Don't get stuck paying for a car like mine.

i bought my 2009 honda accord in october 2009, brakes were squeaking after a month of buying it, i brought it in to honda and they replaced front and rear brakes, the brakes were fine for one week then the squeaking was as bad as before. i brought it back and they said that it's normal for the brakes to squeak. It is so embarrassing coming to a stop cuz everybody turns to look at me. I was a toyota corolla owner and never had this problem, i regret buying a honda, never again i will own a honda car. honda needs to recall the brakes and find a solution to this problem, i dont think the car is worth all the money i'm paying for it.

Sounds like Honda has a problem , I have read all 52 other complaints regarding this and see I am in for some real aggravation. I brought it in and was told that it was because the brakes were new ( and also brake dust ) . I am going back this week again .This should never happen on a new car , maybe we should all park our cars outside the dealer with a lemon on the roof

Hadn't bought a new car in 9 years... read Honda reviews and consumer reports...was told I would never want to own anything but a Honda after owning one...NOT! Brakes began to squeak immediately after purchase in Jan. '09..complained with first service appt...they said that there was nothing wrong...complained with second service appt...they came clean with the fact that this has been an ongoing problem since the '08 Accords came out. I don't understand why this can't be corrected. There needs to be some kind of fix SOON or some sort of restitution for Honda owners who are still making payments on brand new cars.

Accord EX-L

I traded in my 1995 Honda Accord LX for the new 2009 Honda Accord EX-L and was happy with my purchase until a few days later when the brakes started squeaking. I took it to my service advisor upon which they claimed to have fixed it by changing the brake pads and something with the rotors. All went fine until a week later when the brakes started squeaking again. I took it back to service adviser where I was told that corporate knows about the issue and there is a flaw with the brake design. I was told R&D were looking for a fix and that one would arrive within 30-40 days. Well, fast forward 8 months laters and I still get the same story that R&D knows about the problem.

So after doing research on the web about the same complaints I decided to write the CEO (Mr Takanobu Ito) of Honda Corporate (Japan) since it seems all complaints to Honda USA were not amounting to anything. I got a reply letter from the Parts Sales and Service Division VP of Japan (Mr Chieko Sakamoto) basically apologizing for the issue and that Honda USA would be contacting me about the issue. I got a call from a Laura (I think she was just a receptionist) from Honda USA basically stating Japan Corporate got my letter and that Honda USA knows about the problem but when the issue will be fixed by R&D is proprietary and she couldnt say. I asked why Honda has not issued any customer bulletins regarding the issue if so many customer had complained about it, but she said it will be something that they will take into account.

Anyway I figured if enough people complained to the CEO in Japan something will get done quicker. The postage to send the letter to Japan was 98 cents. Here is the address I sent to:

Mr Takanobo Ito President & CEO Honda Motor Co. Ltd. 1-1 Minami-Aoyama 2-Chome Minato-ku Tokyo, Japan 107-8556

I dont know how or if we can add files to the board but I would like to post the letter I received back from My Chieko Sakamoto.

I have had my vehicle in the dealership 3 times for the squeaking brakes. The dealership said Honda is aware of the problem and are trying to figure out the problem. It seems the brakes are getting worse. If Honda wants to keep my business they are going to have to fix this problem and soon. My wife and I went to California and my son drove the car and could not believe how loud the brakes squeaked. This problem is unacceptable for this car company. I have had many Honda in the past and am very disappointed that Honda would make such poor brakes. There needs to be a recall and soon this problem needs to be resolved, and if it is not they are going to lose my business and many other people's business. I am very unhappy about this situation, I even called Honda and simply was told they are aware of the problem.

I completely agree with everyone else who has reported this problem. I too have taken my car to the dealership, as well as reported the problem to American Honda. The dealership has been MUCH less than helpful - and downright rude. The brakes have been replaced - and still squeak ridiculously. We have received all of the same information that "Honda is aware of the problem" and "will be issuing a fix". What a disaster & will certainly cause me NEVER to buy a Honda again.

I have been into Pauly Honda in Libertyville, IL several times, and they have been of ABSOLUTELY ZERO help!! I will never buy a car from them again. They don't wish to fix the problem. They say that replacing the brakes hasn't proved helpful in previous cases. I think THEY ARE TOO CHEAP to put new brakes on my brand new car, and they just want me to drive the brakes further, and have to pay for them myself. I have even spoken the AMERICAN HONDA and they have told me the same thing. They have indicated they WILL NOT reimburse me for my brakes if I have them fixed by my mechanic, WHO BY THE WAY IS MUCH BETTER THAN ANY HONDA mechanic. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL HONDA CUSTOMER SINCE 1981. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN AFTER THE WAY I HAVE BEEN TREATED WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND THE EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THIS ECONOMY. I HOPE PAUL HONDA GOES OUT OF BUSINESS.
