CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Honda Accord has several serious defects – poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

2009 Accord has poor acceleration, especially on the freeway or going up hills. Not sure it should be reported under engine problems, sounds more like a tranny problem when it gets stuck and feels like it doesn't want to shift itself into the right gear. Just one more problem with this piece of junk car. This has occurred since I took the car home from the dealer with 5k miles. It now has 18k miles.

Accord EX 2.5L 4 cyl

  • Manual transmission
  • 0 miles

I have the 4 cyl. with 5 speed. Acceleration exists only in gears 1 and 2. I would call it "sedate." 190 hp but wimpy torque. My previous 2002 Nissan Altima (same size engine) would blow the doors off this Accord with at most a 1 mpg penalty.

Accord LX 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

Bought a used 2009 Accord with 45k miles on it, nice looking inside and out car, but it don't want to go for crap, i would floor it and all i get from this junker is a loud noise, that i would compare to a 90 year old lady ready to die. I was very close to causing multiple accidents because of poor acceleration.

I have a 2009 Honda Accord EX. This is my 6th Honda Accord. I have never been so disappointed with any of the other Accords until now. This car appears to be loud and sluggish when applying pressure to the gas peddle. It's difficult to both merge on to highways and pass on highways. Engine revs loudly and coarse. I have access to another 2009 Accord EX that was bought a month later and begun to drive that one and it rides much smoother, quieter, and quicker acceleration.

I have alerted the dealer and they have told me that there is nothing wrong with the car. However, if you drive the two vehicles, you can feel a distinct difference. If I'm not able to resolve this issue, I will not purchase another Accord.

Accord EX-L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13 miles

I own a Honda Accord EX-L 2009 model. I did not test drive this vehicle prior to purchase since I've owned and driven only Honda's since 96. This car is equipped well and beyond the expectations. It has good horsepower as well. But, the horsepower is useless on the road since the car has virtually no pick up what so ever. I've complained about this to a couple of dealers and they said that the car is fine. I was told that the car is heavier compared to previous Honda Accord models and as such the pick up is less. I've come close two times on the highway where I almost had an accident because the car does not accelerate even when putting the pedal to the metal. I am so disappointed with this vehicle because I feel I got a expensive lemon. Trust me, I will never ever purchase a Honda again. The security and drive of a vehicle is more important than the price tag or brand of vehicle. I hope someone in the Government is watching and reading this. I will take this issue up to the fullest extent till it is resolved.

Accord EX-L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 400 miles

The Honda Accord 2009 V4 has very bad pick-up. It has a potential for an accident, especially if you're merging into a traffic on a highway. One can push the paddle to the Metal and it makes no difference. Very disappointed, never buying a HONDA again.
