CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Honda Accord has several serious defects – poor brakes, excessive oil consumption, & uncomfortable seats.

BRAKES: There was a class action lawsuit against Honda in 2010 for premature & excessive brake wear. See our page on Honda's brake problems for more info.

OIL CONSUMPTION: Honda issued a TSB about this in late 2011, claiming it could be fixed through a software update to the VCM (variable cylinder management). There are class action lawsuits pending. See our page about the Accord oil consumption.

UNCOMFORTABLE SEATS: Owners have consistently reported uncomfortable seats with the entire 8th generation (2008-2012) of Honda Accords. Complaints range from back pain to leg circulation problems due to bad lumbar support, cushioning, & seat angle. Complaints aren't limited to only a certain body type -- the seat comfort problems are from a wide spectrum of owner height & weight. The common theme we hear is "we never noticed this during the test drive." Unfortunately for unwary buyers, the seat pain is noticeable after 15-20 minutes.

My driver side (left) courtesy light will not automatically turn on when the door(s) open nor when the remote is used to unlock the car. Yes the switch is set to door mode. Yes the light works when manually pushed. Yes all other lights come on when the door(s) open. The bulb is fine, the fuse is fine, and the door-light switch is fine. I find this to be a safety issue, not particularly regarding driving, but for my physical safety. I need this issue resolved so if I need to use this light in particular, I can.

I've had numerous incidents which can be considered close calls with Honda Accord in recent months. Besides being blinded by the high beam drls (both from the front and the rear), I have had trouble seeing usage of the Honda's turn signals. This is due to the high light density of the drl next to the small turn signals. I highly recommend that these drl be eliminated. Thank you.

I have notice that while I am driving at night, my 2009 Honda Accord's headlights will dim. Sometimes so low that if makes it hard to see. At this time I can't correlate it to the air conditioning, heater or anything else. The lights just dim down randomly and have increased in frequency over the past few months. We purchase the car in August of 2009 and it has done this from day 1. the Honda service department where we bought the car says it is a normal load issue.

Bought a new 2009 Honda Accord lxp my head lights flicker on and off every 30 to 60 seconds when driving at night with the ac on. This is a problem because other drivers think that you are flashing your lights at them. Other drivers might think that I am driving aggressively and this can result in aggressive response from other drivers this is a very big security risk.

When vehicle air conditioning is on, headlights and other lighting dim noticeably. Headlights are the most worrisome as diminished lighting can make night driving hazardous. On-coming vehicles have "flashed" their lights in response to this "flicker". Honda states this a normal attribute of this vehicle.
