I have had an estimate of $1,700 and 10 days in the shop (so an additional cost of a rental car). The paint is chipping significantly above the windshield, on the passenger side door, above the driver's side head lamp, and around the grill. I don't wash the car afraid of chipping paint, so now I have a dirty car with chipping paint.

Wilde Honda Waukesha Wisconsin. Bought used 2008 Honda CRV Aug 20, 2015 from this dealer did not indicate knowledge of 1) covered-up chipping paint on both front side doors, 2) chipping paint on hood, or 3) factory warranty for chipping paint problems for CRV's 2008-2010 models. Dealer refused to repaint nor repair this car -- even tho there was an official Honda recall notice about this paint problem that ended in 2014.

Shame on Wilde Honda for treating an excellent customer (have bought 2 Hondas from them). They should have offered to strip and repaint the hood at least which is continuing to flake off its paint showing bare metal. This will rust quickly and must be repaired now. Buyer beware!

I have been in contact with Cobourg Honda, whom have been very helpful. It was indicated to me at the time that the service manager had only seen this issue once before and it was not on a CRV. Indicating to me this is an isolated situation. They requested coverage of the paint both on the tailgate and the roof. Honda agreed to tailgate due to warranty but will only pay half the cost of the roof repair.

This is unacceptable as this is not a warranty issue it is a paint defect. I called Honda Canada on a few occasions but they will not accept responsibility. I have contacted PPG, an automotive paint representative, and they informed it was was due to the adhering of the primer to the paint which is a fault of the manufacturer. I understand my vehicle is a 2008 however has very low kilometers.

When I spoke to Honda Canada the representative said he could do nothing for me. I asked if $600 was worth losing a lifetime Honda customer as well as anyone that I would reiterate this information to. Obviously if Honda does not completely cover these costs I will never purchase a Honda again, which would be unfortunate.

I would appreciate hearing from them to resolve this issue by end of month as I will then have to pursue getting the tailgate painted but would like to do both at the same time.

I have a 2008 Honda CR-V in Titanium White. The paint started coming off in chips on the front of the car first. I just thought it was from rocks or bugs since it was originally just on the front in the grill area. A few months later, there was a spot on the door pillar where the paint started to chip. I took it to the dealership, they said they had no issues with the paint on other vehicles like mine, so they said there was nothing they could do.

As time went on, more and more spots appeared. If it rains, rain gets under the chipped places and makes them larger. I took it back to my dealership, Richards Honda in Baton Rouge, LA. They took the tool that measures the paint and took readings over the car. The Service Manager then had the nerve to tell me that the paint was too thick on the car. It wasn't Honda paint. I must have had the car repainted! I bought the car from them with only 15 miles on it! If it was repainted, they did it! The paint is now coming off all over. It just chips off. I called Honda USA, but since the vehicle now has 100,000 miles they said there is nothing they will do.

I wanted a Honda because I thought they were good cars. This one is mechanically sound, but the paint ruins the resale value. I feel let down by Honda and my dealership.

I will add photos, but I have noticed that this phenomenon does affect other white CRV-s and I have also noticed this happening to white work trucks and vans.

My 2008 CRV has chipping paint on the hood. It just starts flaking off. If you try to removed the flakes to touch up it just keeps peeling. The paint is dark pearl blue. I've owned a lot of hondas since 1986 and never had this problem. The paint on this CRV is definitely defective.

I bought this 2008 Honda CR-V new in February, 2009. It has only been on the road for 5 year and the top coat of paint is chipping down to the primer. I took the car to a local Honda dealer so they could take pictures and submit to American Honda. I didn't hear anything for 2 months (they told me it may take that long for someone to contact me), so I called American Honda and they said I needed to go back to the dealer and have more pics taken, because they never received any, and the dealer couldn't find any.

Within 5 days, the PA case manager from American Honda, contacted me and told me it had been reviewed and mainly because of the fact they had no record of anyone having this problem, with this year model, that they would not be able to help me rectify the problem.

I also had this vehicle back to the dealer of purchase, within one month of purchase, to have paint put on the front grill, as it was missing paint on the front grill. One of the areas that are now a problem is that same area of the grill.

I know that this is definitely not the usual wear and tear and am completely frustrated that American Honda does not seem to care. They didn't even follow up with the original purchase dealer to ask for a record of the paint fixed in 2009.

Car is 5 years old. never had this problem with the 20 cars I've owned in my life time.Honda dealer said its not their fault. What do I do next ? Paint does not peel of a car roof for no reason. If the prep work is not done correct the paint will fail. They do not want to deal with it. Car is a 2008 Honda CRV.What do I do next to resolve the problem.

Of all of the Honda CRV's on the road, I have never seen this problem of the black paint peeling off of the exhaust muffler. I brought this to the attention of the Valley Honda dealership service personnel, but they are unwilling to fix the problem and suggest that any paint would peal off due to the extreme temperatures. It looks real bad from a cosmetic perspective. I would like for Honda to recognize their poor workmanship in this case and fix the problem for free...Please let me know the outcome of my request.

Second paint problem with this car and it's not even two years old at the time of the occurrence. The paint on the front of the car (taffeta white) started turning peach. The body shop manager looked at it and said it looked like a urethane failure. Under a magnifying glass he said he could tell that the peach blemish was under the clear coat. They had to repaint the front of the car. It was not ready when originally scheduled because the new paint didn't take well and they had to paint it again. Finally, after a few days, it was ready.

The paint on the color matched grill insert started flaking off. When washing the car by hand, the paint would simply flake off. The dealer service manager first denied their was a problem. Then they tried to blame poor maintenance... on a car 3 months old! Then they said the car was "peppered with rock chips" yet there were no other marks on the front of the car any where. After a week of arguing they decided to repaint the grill insert.

This is the THIRD PAINT PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR!!!!!!!! Now the paint is fading and chipping on the rear lift gate, just under the rear window wiper. Little specks are flaking off and rusting. The dealer admitted to me that Honda has had a paint issue, but because the vehicle is outside the original 3/36,000 warranty, they won't cover it. Despite this vehicle's history with paint issues (two previous issues), they are denying any warranty work or that any problem exists. Regardless of the expiration of the original warranty, the defects in the paint became apparent prior to the warranty's expiration.

My extended warranty won't cover it either according to them. I reported this issue to the dealer the first work day after the Christmas holiday. Here we are in February and still no resolution has been agreed upon. They have tried blaming it on my bike rack which is a hitch mounted rack, doesn't even touch the car body, and places the bike nearly 3ft from the back of the car.

I have produced TSBs issued by Honda that clearly indicate a known paint and rust issues on the rear liftgate of 2007 and newer CRVs but they are only applying that to EX and EX-L models. C'mon, Like they paint each car differently. It's called an assembly line for a reason.

To top it off, my wife and I have bought three cars from the same dealer in the past 10 years, all new Honda's, and have referred friends who have bought from them and this service manager told me that it's hard for him to "go to bat for me" with the factory regional rep because " I AM NOT A GOOD CUSTOMER." Yeah... over a $100,000 in sales have come through me and I'm not a good customer.

We just bought the third Honda in April 2012. It will be our last. I'm pretty tempted to just get rid of both of them NOW.

This keeps occurring, and I found others on the Internet with this year vehicle by Honda having the same issues. Not just the cr-v, but the element, accord and the cr-v for this year. I am sure if I keep looking that the rest of the line will have the same issue.
