CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends. Judging from the identical 2017 model year, the 2018 Honda CR-V is likely to have at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.
Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.
CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

My car has regularly over the years I have owned it (brand new) hit the brakes on its own. The braking is so violent that all the contents of my car fly forward. I have had this type of braking occur when there is no obstruction in the road, no indication of a front end collision about to occur, nor lane crossings. This has happened a handful of times, less than 10, since 2018. However, my front crash detection has also triggered the BRAKE visual and audible warning more times that I can count that were unwarranted. It has triggered on light poles on the side of the road and the Centerville Turnpike Bridge regularly (Chesapeake, VA). There has also been one incident where I was braking and I was stopping in time, but the detection system decided to slam on the brakes even further. The brake pedal literally pulled away from my foot when I was already pressing it to the floor. The result of these incidents is my injured shoulder, sitting stalled in the middle of a busy street/highway, and being stunned as a focused driver. The car does not allow the driver to move right away and it can cause even more detrimental accidents.
Our 2018 CRV Touring modelm has had the dashboard light up like a christmas tree with all codes flashing. We have had the vehicle to the local honda dealer numerous times and also to a private garage. The battery has been changerd out, The Honda dealer performed a sparkplug recall and the car continues to do this with the dashboard lighting up showing all kinds of codes. Last evening for the second time the car would not go above 10 MPH. I had to shut down the engine and restart. This is very dangerous. We bought the car brand new and have had all the maintenance done. My wife is afraid to drive the car, Is there anything NHTSA can do to have Honda look into this problem. From my looking into this it appears quite a few honda CRV's are encountering this problem. This is unsafe. Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing back from you
I had all the warning lights come on my 2018 Honda CRV. At one time the car also lost power. I have been visited my dealer 3 times, and still is the same problem!! It has happened 4 times.
The fault code P0172: System too Rich (Bank 1) has resulted in loss of all Advanced Safety features, as well as the electric parking brake becoming inoperable.
On two separate occasions while driving the brakes locked up. The first time it happened was while driving over a steel street plate in a construction zone. The second time was while driving over normal road conditions. Had anyone been following closely it would surely have resulted in a collision. It also creates a real risk of injury to the driver being thrown forward without warning. These incidents occurred months apart.

The brakes of my car activated automatically while my foot was pressing neither the gas nor the brake pedal. The forward collision alert also sounded. I was traveling at around 45 mph and was suddenly slowed to about 20 mph. Afterwards, everything seemed to returned to normal. I am unsure if this is available for inspection. There were five of us in the car and we were all put in danger due to the sudden change in speed while in traffic, however no collisions or injuries resulted from this incident. This issue has been previously reported by the NHTSA. The vehicle has not been inspected. There were no prior messages or symptoms.
Driving speed limit down Beach Blvd. Overpass at Kernan Blvd was misread as a hazard. Instrument panel flashes (and sounds) Brake Brake Brake. Stopped instantly as entering intersection. Gas pedal was still engaged. Fortunately, car directly behind had ample distance (and was paying attention) to avoid rear ending the car at full speed. This exact situation has happened several times to me before today. Happened on overcast days. Reported to this agency and to Honda. Diagnostics were done at the dealership. System was guaranteed to have all the current updates and the sensitivity was adjusted to be less sentive to correct any further occurrences. Impossible to turn off this 'safety feature' per dealership. They were unaware of any systemic problems involved despite the fact I was able to locate other similar complaints online. I have an appointment tomorrow at Honda to reassess the recurring problem. Some one is going to die or be seriously injured when unexpected braking at higher speeds and larger trucks are involved.
This issue is something I've noticed happen about once every six months since I've had the car (purchased in January 2018), but I have never had it inspected or confirmed by an authorized professional, dealer, etc. On occasion, the automatic brake system will detect a false positive and flash on the screen to brake OR just automatically apply the brakes for the vehicle, even when there is nothing in front of me. I don't know if it's coincidence, but this tends to happen when there are virtually no vehicles within close vicinity and when I'm either cresting a slight incline or at the base of a slight decline. I have had this happen at various speeds, from 30mph to 60mph. This puts my and others' safety at risk as an unexpected brake may cause a crash. No messages or other symptoms of this problem exist. It just happens on occasion.
On 2 separate occasions the car braked on its own one time so severely my seat belt activated. Brake light flashed on dash both times Luckily no one was behind me or it would have been an accident. First time it happened as we drove on the interstate. On both occasions there were no cars in front of us to warrant the car to break. It does it on its own
I have been receiving road mitigation problem, adaptive crude control problem, brake system warnings on my car, the dealer is taking a look at it and Honda should be held responsible as these are safety features.
No accident. Loud Braking noise. Dealership service department has checked 3 times and say they don-??t see anything wrong. They tell me my brakes and surrounding parts are fine.
Several times, the vehicle will brake without an obstacle in the road. It is extremely scary - at one time, it forced me to react unexpectedly and almost got into an accident. This is scary.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle experienced unintended braking. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that he had experienced the failure twice while driving the vehicle. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
Complaint I was traveling southbound on Sunnybrook where it turns to W. Amherst around 9 o-€™clock on Wednesday morning, November 23rd. I was prepared to slow down for the traffic light since I have been to that location so many times. My speed was between 30-35mph. Surprisingly, there was no resistance when I stepped on the brake. I released the brake and stepped on it again. It still didn-€™t work. My car started sliding and wavering and it hit the right-side curb. It didn-€™t stop after hitting the curb and I repeated the step-and-release action a couple of times. After the brake failed, I pulled up the parking brake and my car eventually stopped. The brake failed. Luckily, there was no car in the intersection while my car was out of control and sliding. I was in total shock and desperate fear. I was afraid I was going to crash or even worse situation. That extreme short time of emotional rollercoaster was super distressing and I don-€™t feel safe driving after the accident. I felt even more horrified thinking what could have happened if there were other drivers or pedestrians involved. I was in tears and all shaking. There is a police report for the accident. The police office also stated that -€œ was able to easily push the brake pedal to the floor-€. One more note is that my car past the state inspection on November 17th. My car was later towed to a Honda-certified body shop. The body shop technician also mentioned the brake didn-€™t pass the test while diagnosing the car. Also, I asked for a copy of the diagnostic report which will be forthcoming as a hard copy. It was a terrifying accident putting my life and potentially other people-€™s lives in danger. I hope that this report will bring awareness to Honda manufacturers and public safety agent. It should not happen to another driver.
Abs activated on icy road.brakes failed at next attempt to stop on dry road.no brake response at all. Had to go over curb on grass to avoid hitting car in front of me. No brake warning lights came on.scared to drive car. Have grandchildren I drive to school. Their safety and those of others concern me if this should occur again. I feel lucky that I did not hit a car, pole, or tree when I went over curb and into yard to stop.
My vehicle computer started indicating that there was a critical brake failure and other related safety issues, this started after a brake repair at Middletown Honda. I returned to the dealer and they indicated that it-€™s the fuel injectors misfiring and need replacement. They also indicated that the spark plugs need replacement. I gave approval to replace the spark plugs and the vehicle ran well until I added fuel to the vehicle. then the problem returned. There-€™s currently a recall on Honda models 2014-2016 for the fuel injectors and I want this vehicle year to be included. Thank you
On October 10, 2022 I had brake work done and the computer system starting indicating failures. The computer electrical system continues indicating major failures while driving and the messages indicate critical failures throughout the vehicle. The brake fluid was lower than normal and once filled the lights went out. Then on October 20, 2022 the computer began indicating problems once again.
2018 CRV repeatedly had emergency brake amber light go on in the center of the dashboard. It goes on for a few seconds then shuts back off. This has been happening intermittently for the last two months. It has happened in the past(years ago) but there is no documentation of that complaint. Took vehicle to Honda dealership last week. Initially could not find what was wrong. Finally after hours of running tests? It came down to one code and that the issue was the electronic brake booster. The vehicle stayed overnight. After paying a large sum of money, 5 days later, the light turned on amber on the dash again. I called Honda Service repeatedly but could not reach the Service personnel that had assisted me 5 days previously. Finally talked to another service manager last evening at 6:00 p.m. Bringing car in first thing Friday Morning October 21st. One service manager stated that she had not seen this problem before. There are a few incidences that can be found on the internet with what appear to be simple fixes i.e. low brake fluid, air in line, problem with software, problem with a line to the display and still others. The end all was the issue was treated as a safety issue by one, while another person stated something alluding to if it was a serious safety issue the warning light on the dash would have been red and not amber. In addition, yesterday when the light came on.(after the problem was purportedly repaired) I was doing about 40. There was a brief pause/resistance to the brake as I was slowing. This happened on a main thoroughfare at 0915 a.m. None of this has made ANY sense and I stated as such.
Emergency Braking system is activated while the car is on road in 30+ miles speed and the car lost it control. Managed to stop it after driving a car for almost a mile long and then applying the break with hard attempt. This happened twice one around 10:30 PM on Jul 29th, 2022 and the subsequent day when I try to pull my car out of drive way.
