CarComplaints.com Notes: It's rare when a newer vehicle has defect trends. Judging from the identical 2017 model year, the 2018 Honda CR-V is likely to have at least two — overfilled oil levels with a gas smell, & heat not working.

Both problems affecting the Honda CR-V's 1.5L "Earth Dreams" engine appear to be related to cold-climate regions.

CR-V owners report overfilled oil levels due to fuel in the oil, & sometimes a gas smell in the cabin. That problem appears to be related to fuel injection which Honda hopes to fix via a software update. Honda so far has only conducted a recall in China & a "product update" in Canada.

CR-V owners also report no heat even after warming up their CR-Vs for 30 minutes — not even enough to defrost the windshield. So far, there has been no fix from Honda for this issue.

While driving on the San Francisco Bay Bridge in at about 20 miles an hour with a distance of 2.5 to 3 cars between my CRV and the car in front of me the "BRAKE" indicator light flashed once and the car came to a jolting stop. I was very startled and cars behind me also came to a sudden stop. Following a few seconds, the car was able to accelerate normally again. The "BRAKE" indicator light has flashed many times since I bought the car in January of 2019, but the car never stopped. I brought the car to Honda of Oakland. Where I was told that they'd never heard of this happening. A a brake inspection was completed, but they were unable to replicate the incident. I was told that the sensors were cleaned of debris in case that's what caused the incident.

Our car was parked in our driveway for hours - at [XXX] on [XXX], our Ring camera captured our CRV roll down the driveway as if its parking brake completely failed/disengaged (the tires are rolling, it is not sliding). It then crashed into our shed. We are so grateful our children were not outside playing. The car wouldn-??t turn on so we jumped it - once the power was back, there was a brake hold system problem light on it. We had it towed to a Honda dealership who has not inspected it yet. We have an insurance claim open for the cosmetic damage to the front of the car. Progressive Claim #[XXX] We have a case open with Honda - I spoke to corporate on the phone this morning about it. Case number: [XXX] And to wrap this up, this is terrifying. We have two young children. We bought a Honda to keep us and our kiddos safe - this needs to be remedied before someone gets seriously hurt. I have been having issues with my car abruptly stopping by itself. One example is when I was driving down the road with no one behind me and the car went from 40MPH to 0. The car behind me almost hit me. But MotorWorld's excuse to this was maybe this was because of the sun!!!!! I had called MotorWorld when this first started happening and they claimed they never heard of this happening before after bringing the car in to be looked at they kept asking if i was sure I wanted it to be looked at because with will cost me money if no codes show. I had it looked at and they told me it was my EZ-pass then it was my aftermarket window that I bought the car with (even though they found codes while troubleshooting). I eventually asked them to disable it, which they told me they couldn't. I found online that there is a button to disable it every time I get in the car. I had called Honda directly to file a complaint which the person told me to take it to get a second opinion. I told him I took it to a certified Honda dealer why would I have to take it anywhere else. I am still driving this unsafe car that stops by itself. I would have filed this a long time ago, but I was not aware of this reporting system. Thats why I reported it to honda who did nothing for me, but mislead me for months before I just gave up on them

Electric parking brake failure rendered the car undrivable. The problem was addressed by dealer in 2/24 but returned in 8/24. The parking brake switch was replaced at that time but problem returned 3 weeks later. Error codes indicated left side parking brake deployed unexpectedly. Unable to release parking brakes. After replacement of parking brake switch all error messages disappeared and parking brakes worked properly. After 3 weeks parking brakes non functional and error massages indicated brakes and multiple systems not working. Due to repeated parking brake issues traded in car at a loss as reliable transportation was needed.

The contact leased a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of fuel. The contact stated that whenever the fuel level reached the halfway mark, the fuel then quickly became depleted. There were no warning lights illuminated. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle was slow to respond. The contact stated that the brakes were making an abnormal squealing noise. Additionally, there was a grinding noise while driving up and down a hill. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The dealer stated that the vehicle was working as designed. The contact called another local dealer, First Team Honda (3444 Western Branch Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321), and was informed that the failure might be due to the brake pads and rotors. All of the warning lights came up on my dash and stayed on for almost 24 hours on this most recent occasion of this problem indicating that there was all of the following: emissions systems problem, brake system problem, power steering system problem, VSA problem, hill start assist problem, adaptive cruise control, problem, road departure mitigation, and hill start assist problem. This was approximately the 5th time that this has happened. The problem occurred when I turned the car back on and started to drive after it had been turned off for 10 minutes. This problem seems to be triggered by 2 different events: either idling (like in a drive thru line for a long time) the car, or, after starting the car after it has been turned off of a short period of time. The previous incidence of this problem was on January 7, 2024.

On 2/10/2024 I was stopped waiting to put gas in my car when all of a sudden multiple lights lite up on my dash board (vehicle stability assist, vsa problems, hill start assist, adaptive cruise control problems, collision mitigation problems, road departure mitigation system problem, power steering (eps) problems, electric brake system problem, emission system problem, brake system problem, * all integral to safe driving for me. I was able to drive slowly to my mechanic and he was able to do a diagnostic assessment and it showed a code B1234 (Air Mix Control Motor Circuit (Driver's) Short. He was able to turn all the warning lights off. I am now a little afraid to use my car long distance until I can get assured that this will not happen again. In searching the internet I find that this is not an isolated occurrence. There are multiple complaints regarding this same issue.

be honest, I'm unsure of what systems are failing, but there are multiple. The dash shows Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA problem), Hill Start Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, Power Steering (EPS) Problem, Electric Parking Brake Problem, Emissions System Problem, Brake System Problem. *These systems are integral to safe driving for me and my family, even though I can drive the vehicle. I cannot use cruise control, lane-keep assist, or brake hold, and the car is not handling like it was. It tends to be harder to control. * The warning lamps and messages are on and indicated in the first point. This happened on Monday while my wife was driving, and all those systems shut off. When she parked she did an online search of what the issue might be and found multiple YouTube videos of Honda owners for different models and years with the same problem. One remedy required a reboot of the electrical system in accessory mode. That worked for a day, but now the errors won't clear, and we're unable to use the vehicle's safety features.

Our 2018 CRV Touring modelm has had the dashboard light up like a christmas tree with all codes flashing. We have had the vehicle to the local honda dealer numerous times and also to a private garage. The battery has been changerd out, The Honda dealer performed a sparkplug recall and the car continues to do this with the dashboard lighting up showing all kinds of codes. Last evening for the second time the car would not go above 10 MPH. I had to shut down the engine and restart. This is very dangerous. We bought the car brand new and have had all the maintenance done. My wife is afraid to drive the car, Is there anything NHTSA can do to have Honda look into this problem. From my looking into this it appears quite a few honda CRV's are encountering this problem. This is unsafe. Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing back from you

On two separate occasions while driving the brakes locked up. The first time it happened was while driving over a steel street plate in a construction zone. The second time was while driving over normal road conditions. Had anyone been following closely it would surely have resulted in a collision. It also creates a real risk of injury to the driver being thrown forward without warning. These incidents occurred months apart.

On 2 separate occasions the car braked on its own one time so severely my seat belt activated. Brake light flashed on dash both times Luckily no one was behind me or it would have been an accident. First time it happened as we drove on the interstate. On both occasions there were no cars in front of us to warrant the car to break. It does it on its own

Complaint I was traveling southbound on Sunnybrook where it turns to W. Amherst around 9 o-??clock on Wednesday morning, November 23rd. I was prepared to slow down for the traffic light since I have been to that location so many times. My speed was between 30-35mph. Surprisingly, there was no resistance when I stepped on the brake. I released the brake and stepped on it again. It still didn-??t work. My car started sliding and wavering and it hit the right-side curb. It didn-??t stop after hitting the curb and I repeated the step-and-release action a couple of times. After the brake failed, I pulled up the parking brake and my car eventually stopped. The brake failed. Luckily, there was no car in the intersection while my car was out of control and sliding. I was in total shock and desperate fear. I was afraid I was going to crash or even worse situation. That extreme short time of emotional rollercoaster was super distressing and I don-??t feel safe driving after the accident. I felt even more horrified thinking what could have happened if there were other drivers or pedestrians involved. I was in tears and all shaking. There is a police report for the accident. The police office also stated that -?? was able to easily push the brake pedal to the floor-??. One more note is that my car past the state inspection on November 17th. My car was later towed to a Honda-certified body shop. The body shop technician also mentioned the brake didn-??t pass the test while diagnosing the car. Also, I asked for a copy of the diagnostic report which will be forthcoming as a hard copy. It was a terrifying accident putting my life and potentially other people-??s lives in danger. I hope that this report will bring awareness to Honda manufacturers and public safety agent. It should not happen to another driver.
