The windshield will not fully defrost in super cold weather, such as freezing rain or heavy snow. It also fogs up in even warm weather, making visibility difficult or impossible. This issue has numerous complaints on social media and in CRV forums. To unfog the windshield on the drivers side - so we can see to drive the car - one must get the car very warm, put the heat on HI and full fan blast, and set the high output defrost button. This of course means you get super warm and you have hot air blasting you in the face. You can turn it off, but it gets foggy again really quick. It helps to not have the car on return air, but then you are breathing diesel or other noxious fumes. None of my previous CRVs, which I have owned since 2001, have done this. During this recent heavy snow and ice storm in the east and midwest USA and Canada, there have been many complaints. Some cite having to drive by looking out a little hole in the ice or having to stop and scrap the windshield repeatedly.
Why is this happening? It is a physical design issue. 1)The center diffuser is wide, but the actual duct opening is small. There is no dedicated left side driver vent. Airflow is biased toward the center and passenger side. This is simply poor and dangerous design. The car needs a recall to fix the vent issue - why on earth would someone design a car without a vent in front of the driver's face?
