CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007-2009 was, at one point, the best selling minivan in the United States. But 2007 owners got the short end of that deal.

Peeling paint, a whining steering pump and an easily breakable A/C condenser are all top complaints about the 2007 model year. And anyone who doesn't think a busted minivan A/C is a big deal has never taken a summer road trip with kids.

Went to dealership and was informed there is no recall on this issue and not covered by warranty. Informed them that they had the same issue on the 2005 with same color and it was covered. Dealer said yes but not on the 2007.

Update from Jun 3, 2016: called Honda and went to dealership and they informed me that warranty ran out and it is not the correct year.

they will not do anything about it.

The paint on our Honda Odyssey has been peeling for over a year now and getting exponentially worse. It started on the hood, has spread to both sides and is peeling on the roof between the windshield and the sunroof. It's UGLY and definitely a defect in production. We have seen other vans with the same problem so we know it's not just our problem.

The paint is starting to flake off in fairly good size particles, but only on the front of the roof....so far. As the rest of the cars paint is like new, it seems that the flaking area is (was) defective.

Many car recalls on these Honda Odyssey paint peeling issues. Unfortunately, the year of my van is not included and I do not understand why! The hood and roof are peeling horribly and I'm worried it will start to rust and then it will be a really costly repair.

Paint peeling in sheets on both sides of van just below the windows. Took to paint shop and they claim to have seen a lot of cases involving the Honda Odyssey. Quoted $5-6 thousand to fix. Honda needs to step up and fix this problem. Last Honda I will own.

THIS PAINT PEEL JUST APPEARED ONE MORNING. I UNDERSTAND THAT MY VAN WILL GET CHIPS FROM ROCKS FROM OTHER VEHICLES BUT FOR THE PAINT TO PEEL IN A 6" X 3" SPACE THAT WILL GROW IF NOT ADDRESSED IS UNBELIEVABLE. THE AUTO BODY SHOP SAYS THE ENTIRE ROOF NEEDS TO BE REPAINTED (AT THE COST OF SEVERAL THOUSANDS) BECAUSE THE PAINT WAS NOT PRIMED CORRECTLY. ARE THERE ANY RECALLS OR SOLUTIONS TO THIS PROBLEM? HONDA OWNERS OUT THERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE?

Never had this happen in 45 years of car ownership. Paint just peeled. Called Honda America. They won't do anything. Hard to believe Honda won't pay for the fix. Obviously, a defect. Hoping someone will file some sort of class action. Time to switch to Toyota. I am sure Sienna is just as good as Odyssey.

Paint on car is peeling off. Looks old and cheap now. They issued a recall for some years, but not mine, so of course not covered for the paint recall.

Right in the middle of my nice dark gray Honda hood there are large white pieces sticking through. The paint has started just peeling off. It started small and has grown to several 8 to 10 inch size circles. This is definitely not normal wear and tear. We have had no wrecks or damages to the hood...no scratches to it from any type of object. This is clearly a defect in the paint used. We have shown this to the dealership with no result. What can we do ????

The problem with our Honda Odyssey paint first appeared when our car detailer reported to us that paint was wiping off on his towels when he washed our car in May of 2012. He was the first to tell us that the clear coat had disappeared from the vehicle. Chips to the paint on the front hood and rear bumper were covered up using touch-up paint. Unfortunately, things got worst as stains appearing to be mold appeared all over the hood and roof areas.

The straw that broke the camel's back came in August of 2014 when we took the car to the touchless car wash and a huge chunk of paint peeled off the roof. The stains on the hood and roof look like mold and could not be cleaned off using conventional car washing due to a lack of clear coat throughout the exterior of the van.

Since the huge chunk of paint cannot simply be filled in using touch-up paint, we are at a loss what to do short of either selling the van or paying for a very expensive paint job.

Has anyone with the same vehicle and color experienced this issue? American Honda claims there has been no other complaints on this color and that since it's past their 3yr warranty that it is not covered under the basic warranty and Honda Care.

The hood on this vehicle peeled and the dealer had it repainted approximately Oct. 2012. Now the roof is peeling down to the metal, around the windshield there is a patch about 3 x3 already peeled and you can see the bubbling around the strip around windshield. I called the dealer and was told there was never a recall on this and nothing would be done. I know Honda paid the full amount to have it fixed in 2012, but do not understand how they cannot have it fixed at this time. It surely will not keep any resale value with the roof looking the way it does.

Update from Feb 19, 2015: I called Honda Corp. and also turned this over to the district manager. The extension on the paint warranty ran out 4 months prior to my complaint. However, Honda did agree to pay 75% of the total cost to repaint the roof. I am satisfied with this, though I feel that the paint should have been fully paid for since it was a defect from the factory.

I have loved my Honda Odyssey but feel Honda should cover this Quality failure. I care about the way my vehicle looks. I hope to keep it for another 100000 miles.

The paint just peeled off for no reason. The dealer said he could not do anything about it.

I have a 2007 midnight blue Odyssey. Within the first 2-3 of owing my van, the exterior paint started peeling. Brought it to the dealer and they repainted it at no cost to me. Once again, the exterior paint is peeling exactly like it did before. My husband recently brought it to the dealer (one early Saturday morning), but they said they were to busy and to come back during the week. We both work and haven't had time off during the week. Hoping when we do go back to the dealer they can help us out. I think that's wishful thinking. Very frustrating because the vehicle is in good condition (I think) and it looks like crap on the outside with the paint peeling.

I would like Honda to accept responsibility for the primer adhesion problem and pay for the cost repainting the roof. $646 dollars is the cost estimate given, a small price to pay in order to keep their reputation in tact. I will update this complaint once I receive word from Honda on exactly how they will handle the issue.

Paint is peeling from the hood and roof in the same manner as described in TSB 08-031. My year model and color are not covered by TSB 08-031. Areas effected are symmetrical on the hood as shown in my photos. On the roof it is along a trim piece above the passenger sliding door.

I have sent a letter to Honda requesting evaluation for payment for repainting the effected areas.

Update from Oct 16, 2013: UPDATE: By complaining to American Honda Motor Company, I was able to get them to pay for half of the cost of repainting the hood and roof of my Odyssey. I sent my complaint via fax including the same photos I posted here. I received a call from a regional customer service rep who advised me to schedule an appointment with a dealer to have my vehicle photographed and inspected and send the report to him. Once that was completed he made the offer of covering 50% of the cost.

Paint is peeling from the hood of my 2007 Honda Odyssey. It is peeling in the same fashion as described on Service Bulletin 08-031, however my paint color (Tafetta White) is not covered by the Service Bulletin.

I've had it inspected by two different Honda Dealerships and after faxing a letter to American Honda Customer Service a dealer called and scheduled to have me come in to take photos of the issue.

I'm currently waiting for disposition of the issue from American Honda.
