Notes: The 2007-2009 was, at one point, the best selling minivan in the United States. But 2007 owners got the short end of that deal.

Peeling paint, a whining steering pump and an easily breakable A/C condenser are all top complaints about the 2007 model year. And anyone who doesn't think a busted minivan A/C is a big deal has never taken a summer road trip with kids.

paint peeling

Paint started peeling 6 months ago. Began at the windshield edge and progressively grew in size. Now a second spot has started toward the right of the original. Will have it painted for $500 but body shop will not guarantee it. Cost to do job right would cost over $1500, too much for a 12 yr old car.

The paint is peeling in multiple places on out 2007 Honda Odyssey. The vehicle is in fine mechanical condition, but the exterior looks terrible. I have requested reimbursement from Honda and they have told me they would not help.

First the top of my car atop the windshield had a little peeling end of year last year. Now it is the entire roof that is peeling. There is peeling along the edge of my car windows but so far not on the other areas of the car. Very disappointed that I see other Hondas same model same year that is not having this problem. It is a defect in the paint.

Why buy a Honda if this is what you get? Driving home in the rain one day when large flakes of 'something' coming from 'somewhere' where coming off and covering the windshield. The wipers would not always clear them. We pulled off to find out what it was, and found that the paint on the hood was flaking off in large pieces. Earlier, paint on the roof above the driver did the same thing.

We paid to have that area repainted not realizing that this was a common problem with Honda taffeta white paint. We contacted Honda rep, who failed to file the paperwork, so we made a second attempt. The paperwork was properly filed the second time, but Honda refused to stand by their product with even a penny.

We are now in the market for another car, but refuse to buy another Honda due to the poor paint and low material quality of their products. Honda knows full well that this paint issue is a factory defect, but they'd rather lose a customer for life than fix their problem. Several years later and the paint continues to come off all over the van. Wherever we go, we see other taffeta white Honda Odyssey minivans losing paint all over.

We've bought multiple new Honda vehicles over the years, but no more. I've lost a lot of money on resale value with my van looking like a junk heap. Other issues as well, but reporting them separately. So, again, why buy a Honda when this is what you get?

Paint has peeled off the hood, roof, trunk lid and sliding doors. I don't understand how Honda will only extend the warranty of certain years on certain vehicles for their defective paint. We have been pleased with our van with the exception of the paint.

Paint is peeling off the roof and hood of our white 2007 Honda Odyssey. The clear coat is basically gone over much of the vehicle. We are the original owners and have cared for the car very well. No hail storms. No wrecks. Generally garaged most of the time. Otherwise the car has performed reasonably well. By contrast, the paint on our 2007 Chevy (with 260k miles) still looks great. My wife finds it embarrassing to have the worst looking car in the lot at work. As I look around, I see a lot of Hondas with this problem....

The paint on the roof and hood started peeling. It has large patches coming off. They started in the last two weeks. Honda repainted 2003-5 odysseys I don't understand when primer or paint is defective only some of them are covered. I've never had roof paint peel in my life. In Most places white primer is showing. The vehicle looks ridiculous. I'm worried about rusting. We've always taken good care of our vehicle and expect them to last 15+ years

Everyone contemplating to buy a Honda should be aware of all the paint problems. Honda warranty of 3 year or 36,000 miles is of no value when it comes to needing to paint your car runs upward of $5K any where starting from year 5. That is a major additional cost of ownership.

Honda must acknowledge the problem and pay for the cost of repainting defective paint jobs, at least for cars purchased new from dealership and still with the first owner. I never had a car with such a bad peeling paint even after 20 years. Cars may oxidize a bit over long time but in 5 or 10 years. Honda won't even budge on the repeated requests to take responsibility.

So I'm going to protest this every way possible, simply because it is not fair to me. I paid for a new car and no one accept or expect factory paint to peel this bad in 10 years. One of the things I'll start doing is bring awareness to prospect buyers through protest signs in front of Honda dealerships, local media and social forums.

I had several spots on the hood requiring touch up paint about a year ago. Recently more spots have been appearing that have not been touched up. On a trip over Christmas my paint began coming off in sheets. Spots that were the size of quarters are now hand sized. There are also strips of paint that have come off on the front of the roof. I have owned a lot of cars, but have never had such bad paint. Honda should have to fix this! There is no excuse for such shoddy paint.

I was hosing the vehicle off with a garden hose and the paint just started peeling off in sheets right above the windshield. I have faithfully washed the car regularly and have waxed it every spring and fall. I have not gone by my dealership yet, but I'm not expecting that they will agree to do anything to correct the problem. I am the original owner. I've owned a number of cars (most older used cars) over my 70 years and have never had one peel like this.

The top of my ocean mist light blue honda odyssey touring has peeled down to the metal. There are other bad peeling spots on this vehicle. Why would honda recall and repaint the honda civic with less peeling paint before and not recall the 2007 honda odyssey touring, which is a much more expensive vehicle. I want it repaired because it is beginning to rust where the paint is down to the metal. It will cost me over $1,000.00 just to have the one spot on the top repainted by the local honda dealership because it is not a recall problem. This is not weather damage nor due to being hit by chips of rocks. You can clearly see the paint is cheap and very thinly applied.

I have a taffeta white Odyssey touring that is peeling paint at an alarming rate.I have a patch the size of a dollar bill directly in front of my moon roof. Dealership knows it's an issue but can't do or say anything to help.

I contacted Honda of America and was told too bad. I have to contact the district manager myself and they won't bother to give me their info. I've found so many people complaining of this problem over so many years and colors. My next steps are to contact the better business bureau, the state attorney general and the federal trade commission. Unfortunately i'll have to push pretty hard to get this fixed. The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Update from Nov 14, 2016: I just got back from the dealership and seeing the district manager I was told the paint chipping issues I was having were the same as the ones reported for the Blue Odysseys. They're picking up 75% of the cost to repaint the whole roof. I'm on the line for about $300. Considering I'm 2 years outside of the extended warranty I'm pretty happy with the result. The dealer rep said they had a van in the month before (same year and color as mine) but they only paid 50%. The district manager was impressed with the upkeep of my van and told them to mention it to me. I had washed my car earlier that morning and that $3 saved me $300!

Paint started peeling in sheets very suddenly about a year ago. The car now has huge peeling spots on roof (most of the front) and rear door is peeling as well. Honda dealer said that they would pay for half of cost if we paid $1500. I've seen online quotes that say it should cost $1500-$1600 to repair, so Honda's offer seems worthless. This is certainly a design flaw and it speaks for itself. We tell anyone who asks why are car looks so terrible that Honda used inferior paint and refuses to accept responsibility for our year/model, although they recalled previous years. We're not likely to buy a Honda again.
