This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Have owned the 9195 Accent since 2000. Drivers window handle broke within 2 years, requiring replacement of window assembly. Outside and inside drivers door handles broke; making getting in and out the drivers door now impossible unless I pay $300 to have them both replaced as with the passenger side outside (which there is enough handle left to at least get in the car). I will not be buying another Accent in foreseeable future. Cheap quality all around.
While driving consumer was locking the doors and it was discovered that the doors did not lock from the inside or the outside. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, and dealer could not determine why the doors will not lock.
This car had less than 40,000 miles when we purchased it in August, 2003. Since that time, both of the front door handles have broken from the outside, forcing the driver to open the car from the back doors. The cost of repair will be over $200.
All 4 door handles are either broken or worn out not allowing access from outside the vehicle. Prior to vehicle purchase passenger's inside door handle was replaced by dealer using Hyundai manufactured parts. That handle broke also five months later.
