CarComplaints.com Notes: We're not used to seeing any major problems with Hyundai, which makes the early signs of trouble with the 2013 Elantra very surprising, in a bad way.

Early trends show problems with the steering wandering / pulling to one side along with premature tire wear. Elantra owners have tried sensor adjustments, wheel alignments, even replacing axles, most with no luck. Hyundai has made vehicle buybacks through arbitration, but that rarely works out well financially for owners in the end.

Also there is a pattern of complaints about the 2013 Elantra brakes grinding at very low mileage. It seems there was a bad batch of OEM pads & rotors, but so far Hyundai is not doing a recall. Instead Hyundai issued a TSB & dealers have been replacing pads & rotors on a per-complaint basis.

The final straw is that for several years in a row, Elantra owners report significantly lower gas mileage than the EPA estimates, & there's a small trend of engine problems.

This is not a good vehicle for snow. It doesn't matter how much is packed into the trunk. If there are a few inches, I cannot get through the snow. Once the snow is packed, I can get through it, but cannot move up the slight grade into the circle I live on or the neighboring streets. I had to abandon the vehicle in the middle of an intersection on this day. There was 2 inches of snow on the ground. I spend the last two days stuck at home because I could not get the car moving and the dealership told me I need more "aggressive" tires. I loke the gas mileage when I travel, but it is definitely not a good winter car for snowy areas and if it's your only car (I am a single woman in her 50's) don't buy it.

fishtailing - low pro tires

My 2013 Hyundai Elantra came with factory low pro tires. I immediately noticed when driving on highway or interstate a sense of fishtailing when hitting a bump or pothole in the road. I live in Iowa and the winters here can be extreme...and of course, after a snow storm yesterday I noticed significant problems driving today. If the roads are not completely clear and there are ruts from the snow/ice the car will continuously fish tail and you can feel the back-end being "thrown" a little bit. Needless to say, it seems I'm the slowest on the road because of this issue. I cannot believe Hyundai hasn't had enough complaints about this problem to warrant a recall. I'm sure as with anything it will take someone getting killed before it becomes an issue to them. I will be trying new standard tires and if that doesn't work....a new car will be in my future. I would not recommend low pro tires to anyone!!
