Elantra RA 1.8L 4-cyl

After 8 years of ownership and about 145000 km in the odometer, one morning, the engine failed to start despite calm, repeated attempts to start.

Towed the car to the mechanic, the engine starts without trouble at the mechanic's garage, even the mechanic did not know what the problem was after performing diagnostics.

I have no idea why it did not start and I have no idea why it's starting now. The engine may again fail to start suddenly someday, I just gotta hope that it works every time I crank the ignition. The car has been very well maintained without major issues for 8 years.

This is not the only problem with this engine and Hyundai did not build a reliable engine in this car. Do not buy Hyundai cars, or at least this particular model.

I got stranded at 8pm and my car would not start. Ended up walking home (my phone also ran out of battery could not call roadside assistance).

Car has been having this issue of not starting for a year and a half. No noise, all lights on dashboard are on, but engine would not start. Sometimes if i hold the ignition key all the way on the on position and wait for 10-20-30 seconds (sometimes longer) it starts. But tonight I could not start it.

It has happened to me at least 25 times in the past year and a half but I only had to call for assistance 3 times. When the dealer looked at it they found nothing wrong. But the problem was never solved and I do not know what could be the cause. I see there are many others who have the same problem. If anyone knows what the fix is please post a comment.

Thanks.

I am not sure what is the problem because I am now waiting for the tow truck to take it to Hyundai Service Center. Two days ago after driving without a problem, when I returned to my car after I was finished working, all I got was a ticking sound when I tried to start my car. The light and radio came on so I called AAA. The guy came and told me that there is nothing wrong with my battery after he boosted it. He also told me to keep the car running for about 15 mins when I reach home and I followed the instructions. Yesterday when I turned on the car, there was the same ticking sound and again the lights and the radio came on.
