Ok, this is from Australia, so regarding a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Longitude 3.2L V6, Won't start, but has full power and a good battery. Plug in different scan tools and a laptop with 5 different scan programs and Holy Crap Batman, do we have a phone book of fault codes, including the mysterious U1504 "Manufacturer Dedicated Code". With the right software, you can actually find out what it is. Basically a garbage code because the PCM/ECM/TCM and every other module can't understand more than 5 words.

I contacted the local dealer, hoping for a bit of trade courtesy, as I work in an independent workshop, NUP, Got the standard, "That's unusual" and "We need to see it to diagnose" responses, guess they're using the same bulls** playbook as the U.S. It's out of warranty, so I really didn't expect any useful information. As for the constantly repeating fault codes, U1504, Implausible code length from ..........! Who cares where it's from, Implausible?? Seriously, who writes this software? Other 5 codes constantly reloading after clearing, Steering angle sensor, electric power steering module, both reporting codes to ABS module, which the ABS module is replicating to the power steering module. I'm thinking comms problem. Back to the starting issue, see photos.

I fully charged, tested and boost started battery, click. Persuade starter motor with small hammer while trying to start (yes I'm old school), still click. Try shorting across starter terminals, still click. Remove front bank CAT (well done dickheads, awesome engineering design) to remove starter, bench test starter, still click, remove rear plate (brush plate) and there it is, tiny little copper bridge from solenoid to brush pack blown apart from current load. Seriously, I've seen bigger starters on outboard motors. Back to the firmware and software in these pieces of s. No fault code for an open circuit in the starter high current side?? But it has implausible codes.

I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee built for me at the end of 2014 it’s barely even five years old and is falling apart. The back gate motor went out and although there was a recall on the gate motor was told I had to pay $800 to replace it because although there was a recall it did not apply to my Jeep because it was manufactured somewhere other than where the others with the recall were manufactured, Currently the Jeep just stopped working, nothing would not start and it was not the battery, which I replaced, also. Now they tell me it is some electronic part that also is not under warranty and I have to pay $900 to have that replaced. I spoke to a woman named Page at the manufacturers number and she was totally rude and uncaring about my complaint. She said “so what we don’t have to do anything to help you” I told her that was an UGLY thing to say to someone who brought you brand in good faith. She is still being very ugly. She said that they could not find the part and that perhaps they could get it by January 16fth and note today is December 9th. 2019. She practically hung up in my face when I asked what I was supposed to do without a car and asked about a loaner car. She told me “we don’t provide any loaner cars” nor do they stand behind their brand. It would be good if everyone who is having the same problems with Chrysler NOT standing behind its brand would protest outside every Chrysler Jeep dealership until the manufacturer stands behind these problems that they know the Jeeps have. This was supposed to be my retirement gift to myself and don’t I feel like a fool for not staying with Lexus, which I never had a days problem with nor did anyone ever speak to me out of sorts. Lexus does have the absolutely best customer service. I am furious that I spent 50,000 for a brand where their representatives tell me “So What”. The nerve This customer service woman named Page can be found at 866-932-3873 x3020170. However her assistant who is named Amy is pleasant and understands how to speak with someone who has spent their hard earned money on their BRAND. Do not purchase a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland-not a dependable auto. Now I’m stuck with this and have to trade it in for something dependable and all this of course happens just when I have just about finished paying for it. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ANGRY! and Page made me angrier than angry and should not be working with the public. I purchased this car in retirement (built just for me first owner) thinking that this Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland would be a dependable car and I would be able to take long road trips without worrying about mechanical problems. But, No, what can one do when the manufacturer tells you they don't even know what the real problem is and just as others have stated, the car just stops, no rhyme or reason. I cannot believe that I wasted 50,000 on a brand new automobile that the manufacturer won't even stand up for. Please if anyone knows a legal team ready to take on a class action lawsuit count me in.

UPDATE: as of January 2020

Prior to January 2020, the first time the car stalled in my garage, they replaced the battery (6/10/19). Note the OGM battery was approximately five years old, and we know that car batteries last well beyond five years. Now, since January 23, 2020 the auto has been back and forth to the dealership repair shop with the same issue of stalling and not starting. Notes from January repair read as follows:

1/23/20 J# 1 08CHZ ELECTRICAL TECH(S): 0114 8425 Check car towed in, won't start attempted to lock veh, would not , lock, as if key was in car, then noticed that the IGN was in the run position and veh won’t start Attn: Greg C - see CAIR # Performed diag as per several star cases for no-start condition. Inspected wiring from R/F kick panel to L/R, R/F hub module. No 12 volt supply to RFH or KIN module. Found iinternal defect in PDC after removing connectors and inspecting wiring. Replaced PDC part only one time - Goodwill per FCA rep. Customer pays for Labor. $400 (Note: had car for 3 plus weeks-no loaner)

2/26/20 J# 2 Electrical Tech(s): 0190 8425 Vehicle does not start RANDOMLY,, refer to previous RO. We replaced TIPM/PDC Last RO. Test system, not able to duplicate concern test system and road tested a total of 120 miles and QCED by shop foreman suspect that the RFH Hub could possibly be intermittently dropping out. Replaced RFH as a possible cause, no charge per good-will MLC

After 2 weeks vehicle was returned and stayed with the dealer repair shop from March through April ( No loaner car given until a month later after complaining.)

4/16/20 J# 1 Electrical Tech(s) 8425 Internal Vehicle towed in for a no start condition (see history) Performed diag test found battery low, test with GRB charged Bat passed, no draws encountered retest, road tested let veh sit started OK, worked with Star Center Case # 101679695 and with BC tech advisor, inspected grounds, all ok, found batt discharged on 2 additional start ups with no apparent draw. 1st time took charge and passed test, second wouldn't take charge, failed GR8,, suspect internal battery plate shifting intermittently creating loss of power and dead battery not allowing to start replaced battery with unit supplied by PAP A/M part warranty (originally replaced 6/10/19 see RO#258258) Retest system started vehicle, road tested let veh sit over 4 day period no problems starting also road tested and QCED a total of 139 miles QCED by shop foreman. Also had an oil change.

NOW 4/30/2020 -

Approximately two weeks since I’ve recieved the veh and have been driving it. When I picked the veh up this last time on 4/16/20 and was told it was a battery problem I did tell them, although I'm not a mechanic, I know that, that could not possibly be the fix and asked, this being the third battery you've tried, the question I would have even a lay person is; What is causing the electrical shorting out of the batteries, logical even for me.

So today, I called AAA to have it towed again to the dealer repair shop, but AAA said I had used all of my tows (5) we have the plus plan, never figured I'd have these kind of problems with a car I purchased, had built brand new just for me. :( So again I have contacted Paige at FCA and let her know once again it has failed at the two week mark - no start. The good thing is that when I noticed something strange, ( a notice appeared in the dash saying about the suspencion needing attention and a little red button light was displyed) upon starting the veh to go to the doctors, I had the forthougt of mind to stay in the driveway and turn the car off to see if it would start again. And of course it did not...so glad I did not leave home and get stuck. Rescheduled my appointment.

So, once again here I am, without my Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. My question is: "FCA or whomever built the car, why don't you know what is going on, why is there no fix? I cannot afford to buy another vehicle! Where do we (FCA and I) go from here with this issue. Can you, being the manufacturer, figure out your own electrical mechanics of the vehicle, and if not, then what?

HELP! FCA PLEASE STAND BY YOUR BRAND. REPUTATION IS EVERYTHING!

3rd time since purchasing this vehicle. No warning - I turn it off, go inside a store for 5 minutes, come out and won't crank, turn over - nothing. No warnings, etc. lights still work, except front dash and radio console. Sat for 15-20 minutes and was able to crank it. Cranked this morning, headlights and overhead lights go dim to reg. Going to the shop tomorrow - car has been out of my possession well over 30 days!

Car died at stop sign. Would not turn over. Battery light came on. Making noise as if to start to turn over, then just made strange noise as if almost trying. After waiting 2 hours for tow truck- started fine once arrived. Towed to dealer anyway - didn't trust it. After a week at the dealer, they can't replicate the problem. Great - now I have an unreliable new car- crap!

Vehicle won't start and vehicle can not detect key. Tested and diag. no start condition. Tested battery and found bad cell. Replaced battery car now starts and can see key but trans. shifts excessively hard and light is on. Continued diag. Found TCM proxy alignment to be incorrect due to weak battery? Reset proxy alignments for all modules. TCM codes now gone and shifts into gear smoothly, SES light still on, continued diag. Found active codes for steering angle sensor missing calibration and ESP to be out of calibration. Attempted to cal. Tested powers and grounds to SAS,..OK. Checked sensor for activity. SAS is unable to see degrees of change in steering wheel. Found sensor to have failed internal, failure due to damaged battery and insufficient power to the vehicle systems. Removed air bag on steering wheel, removed steering wheel from column removed clock spring with SAS senor and replaced. All back to normal but took 5 days for parts and repair
