CarComplaints.com Notes: There's no way around it, the Cherokee's transmission is junk. There's no other explanation for why a vehicle, usually with under 40,000 miles, would have so many complaints

loud rattling from engine

Engine started making loud knock knock noise while driving up hill. Brought it to the dealer where I've bought it then had bunch of metal pieces into my oil filter. Diagnostic was to replace the engine, of course my extended warranty could not cover the cost and their DSM did not approved for them to help me up with it. Ended up going privately and going after the dealership with legal means. Had the guy take the engine apart then the cause was a worn and broken connecting rod bearing.

So after the updates and replacing the transmission at 12K kiles, my car is now making a high pitched noise when started. I took it I and was told its probably because of the cold weather. Really? Its a brand new car with 16K miles on it! My VW which is 10 years old with 202K miles isn't making a noise! So they "tinkered" with somethings and sent me on my way. Of course it wasn't making the noise when I brought it in. I also say tinkered because they didn't know what was wrong with it so how could they fix it? Next morning same problem. So I bring it back and tell them to keep it overnight and try starting it in the morning. I also tell them its probably a belt.

Next morning they start it and hear the problem! They replace the belt and keep it another night. But its still making the same noise the next day. So they call Chrysler and wait for a call back. Next day they finally hear back and now they are replacing the water pump. OK at 11K miles I needed a new transmission, and at 16K miles they are replacing a water pump? I swear I bought a new 2014 Jeep with 300 miles on it...?

After the water pump is fixed they start it the next morning and guess what! Its still making that noise. They are really stumped now. So they call Chrysler again, now they are replacing a other belt (hmmm why not try that before the water pump?). That fixed the problem! Only a week later and 1/2 tank of gas burned (which they didn't replace).

There is an ongoing cold starting problem, the Jeep has been to the dealer 4 times now to have the problem fixed. When the temperature drops below about 25F the engine squeals during cold starts. The dealer is baffled and are starting to try to tell me that it might be just the way it is. That's BS on a brand new car. I believe this will be my first dealing with the Lemon Law.

I bought my 2014 Cherokee Sport and a week later took it back to the dealer and complained about a loud rattling noise coming from under the hood. I was told this it's normal.

A few weeks later the noise became louder and I also noticed a loud noise coming from the muffler. Was told both sounds were from leaking weep holes that were put in place to for condensation. They mentioned it was a known problem but there has been no resolution to to this issue but hopefully soon BUT it was NOT guaranteed there would be a fix. The noise is very irritating and if I knew what I know now I would not have purchased the vehicle.
