CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2019 Cherokee is racking up engine complaints for suddenly shutting down while driving. But the problem could possibly be related to the increasingly defective 9-speed transmission which suffers from hard shifts, lurching problems, and a wiring harness defect that can cause sudden shutdowns or an unexpected shift into neutral.

I thought it was just me at first. I came from a Challenger (I know I know, no one comes FROM a Challenger to a Cherokee, but I did), so I'm used to fast accelerations. This is a problem especially pulling into traffic from a dead stop. I've nearly been hit a few times. No one seems to have an answer.

Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,000 miles

When foot is off the accelerator I expect the vehicle to slow down because of the engine braking, it does slightly slow down but after what appears to be a down shift it accerates or maintains speed. It is a very strange behaviour I have never encountered on any car I have driven previously, automatic or standard. decellerate
