CarComplaints.com Notes: Whenever a new product is introduced, there's bound to be some problems. And man oh man, does the 2006 Commander have some problems.

It's the plight of the 1st-generation adopter: you get the newest and shiniest in exchange for a handful of issues that get ironed out in future versions. But what happens when that handful of issues becomes a bucketload? The 2006 Commander has quality control issues like the door handles breaking off and the sunroof leaking. But what's truly worrisome is the electrical problems like the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly, gauges going crazy or the cruise control having a mind of its own.

Bottom line: if you want a Jeep Commander, you're better off looking at a later model year.

My 2006 Jeep Commander has paint chipping on the hood and roof...the roof is starting to rust. Maaco states its a factory paint problem. Jeep dealer also thinks the paint was put on to thick at the factory. Dealer states the primer appears to be missing on the hood and thinks that the paint had nothing to stick to. General consensus is this is a factory issue, hoping Chrysler eventually issues a paint recall for this issue...My wicked expensive Limited Commander 4x4 w/ Hemi looks horrible and will require new paint soon...Chrysler price quested me at $7200!!!!!!! for new paint...

Yell, scream, gripe and lets declare it a lemon! The problem appears to be bad paint from the company. It is small chips only on the hood. Maybe its from the engine heat. I have owned other suv's, cars and trucks throughout my life and I have seen this happen to other people usually on cheaper auto's from all of the 3 big car companys. My jeep wasn't cheap as a Commander Limited, V8 hemi 2006, with all the added features and upgrades and even factory ski racks added from the factory.
