During highway speeds, my brake peddle went all the way to the floor and there was barely any pressure in system. Took to dealer and was advised I had to replace my brake booster because it failed but it was not covered under warranty. Had to pay out of pocket.

I purchased the above listed vehicle in April 2013, had to bring it back for an issue with the brakes. I had little to no pedal, brought the vehicle into the dealer waited approximately two weeks and the vehicle was returned to me. Service writer stated that being the truck was on the lot for a while, the brakes got warped. Was told that the brakes were changed. I left with the vehicle that had a little more pedal since I brought it into service.on or about the first week of Feb. 2014 I experienced my brake pedal was hard as a rock and I was unable to stop the vehicle. Brought my vehicle into service explained to them what was going on and they said it was the brake boosters. I get into my vehicle a few days later and once again I was not able to stop the vehicle, this time I almost was involved in an accident. I drove the vehicle almost 10 miles at 20 mph to the dealership and demanded they fix the brakes. The service manager came out got into my vehicle drove it down the street while I was the vehicle, the vehicle was there for almost five weeks, I finally received a call on April 10, 2014 that my vehicle was ready. I get into the vehicle I press on the brake pedal and the pedal goes right to the floor. I was advised by the service writer that I needed rear brakes and that is why its doing that. The cost for rear brakes was about $500, I declined and told the service writer I had my brakes done several months ago and they should not be in need of repair. He looked into the system and told me only my front brakes were repaired, they just surfaced the rotors and put the same pads back on. I went to the show room asked for a 2011 Grand Cherokee brought it to the service department and showed them a vehicle with 6000 more miles than mine and two millimeters less pad than mine and the brake pedal was full.

My wife was driving our 2011 Grand Cherokee overland yesterday and was stopped with her foot on the brake in a drive thru. While it was stopped with her foot on the brake petal went right to the floor and the Jeep started to move forward. No brakes!!! she said she heard a air type sound when it happened. Fortunately she was able to coast safely to a parking spot until I could get there. After getting it to the dealer the called me and said it was the brake booster. No details were given to me other than it failed. All I can say is thankfully it happened where it did. There are so many situations that this could have cost her life or someone else's. now every time she or I drive it we will be thinking about when the brakes will go out again. Hope we can get over that or it's gone. She was shaking for hours afterwards and was physically drained later in the day. Again, thankfully it happened while stopped.

Hi, I am writing to you today because my family and I had a couple near miss situations in regards to my braking system on my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. There was a audible heavy air leak from the broken vacuum seal going to the brake booster. With no power brakes I was on the verge of rear-ending vehicles and even worse pedestrians for a couple days until I could get my car in for servicing. I took my vehicle to a licensed mechanic prior to servicing and he told me of a very recent recall that was just getting initiated by Chrysler in hopes of avoiding this exact situation. Recall P14. When I brought my SUV in to get it serviced they said there was no recall assigned on behave of my specific VIN number even though they did agree this recall fits exactly to what my deficiency is. I am getting it repaired as we speak because I do not want to take a chance or fool around with anything as vital as my braking system. They are replacing the entire booster and vacuum seal. If you would be so kind to inform me as to why this recall is not specific to my VIN and 2011 Grand Cherokee as a faulty braking booster and seal is in no way supposed to fail in 3 years I would appreciate it. I am at the moment on hook for a bill that's 700 dollars plus from haley Dodge Jeep Chrysler in white rock bc. While driving the speed limit on the highway I was approaching slow traffic. I tried to apply the brakes but the brakes were hard and failed to work properly. The vehicle did slow down a little bit but not enough to stop the vehicle. I was going 55mph and then traffic slowed to about 20-25mph but couldn't. I had to veer off into the left lane to avoid hitting the car in front of me. It wasn't the anti-lock brakes kicking in either. I the brakes were just failing. The second occurrence was the next day when I was approaching an intersection to make a right hand turn I tried to apply the brakes but again the brakes were hard, as if the pedal fully depressed without applying any brake. Luckily I was cautious from the previous incident and was approaching the intersection at a low rate of speed. I was able to just barely make the turn without colliding with another car. Thankfully there weren't any pedestrians crossing the street, in New York city this is a rarity. After all this happened I checked any recalls with my vehicle and saw the brake booster recall. I called two Jeep dealers ( bayside Jeep in NY and East hills Jeep in NY) and both gave me a hard time saying that there is not a recall out for my vehicle. They are saying my VIN # does not have a recall against it but Jeep hasn't assigned the recall to any specific VIN #S, they say to just bring it in to get checked out. Since this wasn't a mandatory recall to my VIN# I wasn't given an appointment for service for 1week at bayside Jeep and 2days later at East hills Jeep. I was given attitude and didn't even care that this was a major safety issue.

My brake booster has a malfunction causing vacuum loss in the brake booster. This causes difficulties in stopping my car. I have read about a recall pertaining to this issue so I called Chrysler about this and they said that they will issue a recall in may and I should go ahead and have the repairs completed at my dealership since there's no way of the customer service rep knowing if my car is included. She also stated that there is no way of knowing if I will be able to be reimbursed for paying for the repair out of pocket.

My wife has had 3 separate encounters where her 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland has randomly powered down, losing capability to operate the vehicle (no brakes/steering) while she was driving the vehicle. The first occasion happened in November of 2013, vehicle was stopped at an intersection and lost power. The vehicle was put into park and re-started with no further issue. We didn't report this incident. The second event happened on April 3, 2014, the vehicle lost power while my wife was driving at approx. 40 mph. Again, when the vehicle came to a stop she put it into park and re-started the vehicle. We contacted the local Chrysler dealership on April 7 and set up an appointment for April 12. The third event occurred this morning, April 10, 2014. The vehicle speed is difficult to determine but my wife was slowing down to make a left turn on a 50mph road. There were other vehicles in the area that could have caused serious accident, mainly a school bus with children on board. Again, the vehicle had to be put into park and restarted. Difficult to do on this busy road. I contacted the same dealership and explained to them what had happened. The dealership moved up my April 12 appointment to today. So far, the dealership has been accommodating. They plan to run diagnostics checks to determine cause of power failure. Also, there are other electrical issues plaguing this vehicle (power door locks not working, drivers side seat heater not working, key not being detected). This vehicle has approx. 129,000 kms on the odometer and we bought it privately about 6 months ago (approx. 105,000 kms). I felt that I should report this issue given the recent attention to similar issues with General Motors (ignition switch). If necessary, I can provide more details.

Vehicle first exhibited a hissing noise whenever the car was first started and brakes applied for the first 5 minutes of running. On multiple occasions traveling at speeds of 10-40 mph did the brakes either delay or not fully respond. On two occasions this almost caused an accident when driver was forced to stop short. Very dangerous and contemplating whether to contact a dealership or local mechanic. Seems like a popular issue but little to nothing done by Jeep. This is my 2nd Grand Cherokee, if issues like this keep occurring it will certainly be my last. I am the second owner, bought car at Jeep dealership and it has about 51K miles.

My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee brake booster failed. I am getting a "hissing" noise from the booster and my braking power has been reduced. The issue started during a real cold snap in the northeast... not sure if the defect is related to this cold weather or not. I own my car for 3 years now with 23K miles on it, got it as brand new. On Feb 24th Monday morning I experienced a brake issue, plus hissing noise coming out from under the dashboard. First I thought it needs some time to work around after being on driveway for 2 days(on a weekend) but after driving around and waiting on a red lights that noise didn't go away. Braking is kind of different now, I need to push the pedal harder in order to stop the car but in case of an emergency it will be very difficult. Power brake booster is back-ordered according to a service center rep at the dealer I got my car from. Now need to wait, pay for it and installation. Looks like I'm not the only one with this same issue, why not a recall?

On 2/26, I experienced a brake failure in my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I pressed the brake pedal, it was very stiff, and I could not stop my vehicle as quickly as I could before. The pedal only went halfway to the normal depressed position. The vehicle did not stop, and I had to coast to a stop. I took my vehicle to a Jeep dealership that evening for repair, and I was told the following day that the problem is the power brake booster. I was told on Saturday (3/1) that the part would arrive at the dealership on Tuesday (3/4). I spoke with the dealership today, and there is now no eta for the part (the power brake booster). Upon further searching online, I've become aware that this is a common problem for 2011/2012 Grand Cherokee and Dodge durangos. Apparently, the diaphragm in the booster cannot withstand the colder temperatures that we've been experiencing recently in the northeast, and allow moisture to get into the brake system, causing freezing. Driving the vehicle is extremely dangerous, as the brakes do not function at all when attempting to stop the vehicle.

I posted my story on February 21, 2014. After contacting Chrysler on March 3, 2014, they informed me that they will replace by broken brake booster with another faulty brake booster. Jeep is no longer manufacturing the brake booster, which is a recall, and no one will do anything about it. Chrysler does not care and are neglectful to their consumers and basically don't care to put me in another dangerous situation. I intend on filing a class action lawsuit against Chrysler. They are the worst to do business with. They are out to make money and don't care if their consumers die. Chrysler has no problem and thinks it absolutely safe to put me in a vehicle that, without warning, could cause me to lose my life and potentially take others.

As I was driving less than a mile to work on a very cold New Jersey morning my brakes felt unusually hard and high. As I pulled into the school parking lot, where I work, I stepped on the brakes to slow down on the decline of the road and they would not go down, they went down only about a centimeter or two, and I just kept pressing them. Again they felt extremely hard and high. There was a school bus full of children in front of me and I just prayed I would not rear end them. Thank god I was only doing 15 mph....if any faster it would have been a nightmare!!!!! I called my dealer and they said do not drive it, have it towed here. I did have it towed that day and today I was informed I need a brake booster like many other people. They are back ordered and could take 3, yes three weeks because of the huge demand. I believe if I was going any faster than 15 mph lives would have been lost. :(
