CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Grand Cherokee hasn't seen the same complaint volume as the 2011, at least not yet.
It's worth noting both model years are part of a class-action lawsuit that focuses on a defective TIPM and a long wait for replacement parts.
The 2012 also received national attention after it failed a Swedish Magazine's "moose test". The test measures a vehicle's ability to swerve out of the way of an obstacle you wouldn't want to hit while driving down the road ... like a moose.

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 35 mph, the engine stalled and all the indicators on the instrument panel illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive home. The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA campaign number: 19V813000 (fuel pump). The contact spoke with an unknown dealer and was informed to wait on the recall. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the part was not available for the repair and advised the contact that they may need to replace the fuel pump; however, it may not correct the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available. VIN tool confirms parts not available. (recall related incident)
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving various speeds, the vehicle randomly shut off. After restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was taken to bz motors (6801 West branch hwy, lewisburg, pa) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Vehicle stalls while running at various speeds and at times will not start. The transmission periodically misses and makes hard knocking sound. Started doing this 2017
Vehicle stalls without warning. Vehicle is in motion, slowing to turn. Usually on a right turn near beginning of turn. Power assist steering and braking disabled. Has happened approximately 10-12 times since purchased in February 2019. Reported to dealership on March 5, 2019, at which time we were told it was a previous recall and they would order parts to redo recall. Informed today that a new recall was issued, but no solution is ready. Reporting for NHTSA records.
Email 2 of 2 here are my proposed solutions: #1 corporate pays the dealership to fix the recall problem with the fuel pump relay issue now with the current parts they have and then the dealer will fix it again when you get the correct recall parts in. You as Chrysler can sort it out with the dealer and I as the customer am not asked to pay for a recall. #2 if my car is not able to be repaired until the recall parts are available, then provide me with a loaner car until my car is repaired. I expect to be contacted by end of business day with your proposed resolution. My Jeep died on the middle of the highway on 11/30/19 during the evening. It is a serious safety concern as it stopped in the middle of the lane and the shoulder at a dangerous curve and cars were flying by beeping at me. I am very fortunate my Jeep was not hit and I wasn't hurt. I had it towed to route 46 Jeep in little falls NJ where they diagnosed the problem as part of the current fuel pump recall. They told me I would have to pay for the recall as it is a new recall. A customer is not responsible to pay for a recall. I need your help. I need my truck to get to work and breast cancer treatment. The dealer has had it for 3 days trying to 'figure out' how to handle this situation. This is not acceptable. Can you please intervene. (recall related incident)
Chrysler made a recall on the fuel pump relay on Nov 14, 2019. On Nov 18, 2019 my vehicle completely stopped in the middle of the street and did so numerous time during the week. Luckily, I was never on the highway went it happened. I called Chrysler they informed me it was one of the vehicles in the recall, however they did not have a solution at the moment and I had to wait until Jan 2020. I could not drive a vehicle in that condition, so I took it to my mechanic. I called Chrysler to inform them of this and they said to just submit the proof of the service. However, when I did submit the proof they declined it stating Chrysler had not updated the recall and there were no parts. I should get reimbursed for the recall.
I had been experiencing problems with my car stalling while cranking or it would get hung up and cut right back off more than 3X numerous times so many I can't count! I called mopar service number because the first fuel pump relay call and they did absolutely told me to go to a dealership and run diagnostics which is around $200 right off the bat! this was may of 2019 here it is Nov and there is not a remedy yet or parts available! I should not have to pay and be reimbursed especially when I called way before now about the same problem as before!
NHTSA recall number: Opens new window takes away from VIN lookup section>19V-813recall date: November 14, 2019. I had numerous instances this past year where the vehicle stalled unexpectantly and then would not start. Had to have it towed to the dealer and they replaced the fuel relay but I had to pay for the service. I was told that this was the second time that the fuel relay had been replaced on my vehicle. Can I get my money back" is this new recall a permanent fix or will I have to replace the part again within a year or two"
The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland I purchased two years ago has started to completely stall while driving causing the power steering to not function as well as the brakes. This engine power turns off randomly at around 10-15 mph (when making turns, stopping and/or accelerating) but there are no warning lights that appear on the dash. All electrical power to the car still functions and the engine stall is not noticeable until applying pressure to the brakes or trying to steer the wheels. The first incident was (easter) 28 April 2019. The car shut off around 10 miles per hour as I made a left turn crossing the incoming lane into a parking lot. Luckily there was no car coming or a serious accident would have resulted. The frequency of these types of stalls have become greater. They are happening at least once a week without any type of warning. The most recent incident was November 7th 2019. This vehicle was released from the dealership on November 1st, 2019. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership multiple times to find the problem as well as maintenance. Nothing has been found that would cause this. The dealership says the vehicle is perfectly fine. As simple test drive will not be able to find the problem.this is the same concern as fca recall T59 and NHTSA recall # 17V-572.
There has been a sporadic issue when trying to start my vehicle where it'll make an attempt to turn over and get started but it's getting stuck as if it's maybe not catching the correct amount of fuel. I've also experienced seat belt issues with my seat belt light on and beeping as if it's not on but it would already be properly buckled in. I also had an issue with my engine cooling system that was cause some sort of leak
When the car is stationary it will not start when the button is pushed. The car shudders and the computer freezes. It can only start when the key is used in place of the push button. It seems as if the starter is not relaying to the fuel pump. This car underwent a big recall in March of 2017. The fuel pump, fuse box, battery and alternator were replaced. It was at the dealers for three weeks. The Jeep broke down and had smoke coming from under the hood. Unfortunately, we received the recall notice three days after the problem occurred, so we had taken it to our mechanic. Then we had to have an additional tow to the dealership. (recall R09)
There was a recall for the fuel pump relay back in 2015. Mine was replaced in April of 2016 then again in 2017, 2018, and now once again needs to be replaced. I have paid for a new one and labor and its still faulty and happens about a year later every time.
I bought the car in a different state and ever since I bought it I've had fuel pump symptoms. Car stops getting fuel to it and wants to shut off. Now it won't shift gears without shutting off, it isn't getting any fuel to it at all even though there is fuel in the gas tank. I went to get gas because my gas light came on. I shut my car off to pump gas. When I was finished I went to turn my car back on and it sputtered and shook and didn't want to stay on. I tried to put it in drive and move away from the gas pump and it wouldn't hardly move. It was real jumpy (kind of like a car out of gas) I wound up having to get it towed home. Me and my fianc looked up possible problems and found that my model of Jeep had recalls for faulty wiring for the fuel pump fuse and I want to know if there's something I can do to resolve my problem. I haven't even had my car for 6 months yet.
After failing inspection it was in shop 6 weeks for repair but was not repaired! it misses more than ever, most often during idle & has difficulty starting at times & you can smell gas sometimes making me fear it will catch fire.
My Jeep has an ignition/starting problem. It will try to start but just keeps turning over. After 10 seconds it will stop then it will usually start after. Online it says the timp could be the problem.
