CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2006 Nissan Altima has a trend of engine & transmission problems.

Excessive oil consumption is the main problem reported by owners. Nissan did a recall back in 2006 for oil consumption due to bad piston rings, but many owners report to us that the recall didn't fix the problem. The dealer only had to check the oil consumption rate. Typically 1 qt per 1,000 miles is "acceptable" per OEM standards ... that's a lot of oil!

The 2006 Altima also has a defect trend of CVT transmission failure showing up around the 100,000 mile mark.

It's an expensive repair at over $2,000 average repair cost. For more information see Nissan Altima CVT defect info on NissanProblems.com.

I was driving and my car stalled on the road. It said I had half a tank of gas, come to find I was out completely out. Service engine soon light came on. A mechanic read the code; fuel pump problem and the gauge is not reading correctly. He replaced the entire fuel assembly and when I fueled up the light came back on!! He checked connections and cleared the light. It came back on again. He then replaced the fuel pump again. I fueled my car after about a week and the light is back on again. I'm researching fuel problems with 2006 Altima. Why is there not a recall for this problem as I have seen numerous recalls for other Nissan vehicles with this issue? I have had my car worked on 4 times and still not fixed!! I am very disappointed in this company. A month earlier i had to replace the catalytic converter,
