This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Timing chain, guide or tensioner worn. Rattle noise coming from timing chain cover when accelerating from stop or at low end of rpms when revving motor in neutral. Could puncture timing chain cover, causing loss of oil or chain could fail. Dealers states that removal of engine is required for service, and by the time labor and parts are totaled, it makes more sense to replace the engine. D dealers state that this was a part that should not require service. Cost of replacement $4,000, half or more of the value of the vehicle, depending on what price reference was used.
