CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Nissan Maxima is a very good reliable vehicle, continuing a stretch of good model years from 2010. Beware of Maximas from 2009, and 2004-2006 though.

The 2009 Maxima has an expensive problem where the steering lock prevents the car from starting, & costs upwards of $1,000 to fix.

Nissan Maximas from 2004-2006 have a widespread transmission defect, but judging from our complaint data, Nissan fixed the transmission problem starting with the 2007 model.

For the 2012 Maxima, so far so good!

Navigation Map - Freeway lane flashes Red with Major Traffic Incident, then Orange as leaving, then Yellow, then back to Green. No POP Up or Voice Alert before actual accident is visual. Safety issue to take eyes off the road to look at map to see if there is an issue ahead. Locked in traffic situation. Navigation Manual states that a Pop Up Notification, and a Voice Alert happens for Urgent Traffic Warnings. Numerous visits to dealerships to only receive " Nothing wrong with the system." Techs make statements "System Too Busy", "Must have a Destination set", "Zoom out 3 to 5 miles" Etc. I have, I do, I did, Still no Alerts. XM Sirius Refresh over and over again. Can't get "Expert Techs" to forward for a Program Check and Activate Voice.

Weather alerts work GREAT, but NO TRAFFIC ALERTS.

Husband has same signal from XM Sirius in his Buick LaCrosse, as I do. He receives Pop Ups and Verbal Alerts all the time. Not me. XM verified no additions to Buick, only XM Sirius Signal.

Ready to mail to President of Nissan in Japan. I've had 2 hip replacements, and am avoiding the freeway. I don't feel safe in my vehicle anymore. Very expensive car, can't walk away from payments. Help, please!
