CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2017 Nissan Sentra has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data from the earlier model years in this same 7th generation Sentra.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Sentra owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

I noticed the issue the weekend of the week I bought the car when travelling on the highway. The car makes a screeching/grinding sound, sort of metallic. I am afraid the car is damaging other parts of the car. The sound is random and only comes out when driving above 80km speed the higher the speed and windier it is, the more often you can hear the sound. usually comes out after 110km speeds.Happens more when changing lanes and when there are crosswinds.

I am very unhappy with the way the issue is being handled as it is a brand new car and should not be making this sound. I have been having trouble making appointment for service and being able to receive courtesy rental or loaner car being told to make appointment later when it is available. I have been trying to resolve the issue for 2 months now.

Finally, got an appointment today after complaining to Nissan Canada and being able to get a courtesy rental. Turns out that the noise has diminished and has been quieter the past week and they cannot replicate it now that I have brought it in.

While on the freeway (going over 60 mph) when there are crosswinds, a loud metallic noise arises. Took it to Nissan service department and they said they've heard of the issue and that its the mirror cap that had to be replaced. Got it replaced, and sure enough it's doing it again. Called another Nissan dealership and he said he was aware but that there's nothing that can be done, it's just a manufacturer problem. Super annoying! I have to blast my music to try to avoid it. Wish I would've been told about the problem. To know that there's pretty much no solution to it sucks. I think there's a gap or something on the mirror cap that has to be sealed. If anyone has found a solution please let me know.

Sentra SR 1.8L V4

got a brand new 2016 Nissan Sentra SR.... a scary sound is coming from my passenger side every time I reach 60+ mph on a freeway either uphill or downhill. not really sure if its coming from the engine, dashboard, suspension or somewhere there. sounds like clenching or something not good. I don't Feel safe hearing it because It happen always when I'm on a freeway and uphill or downhill.

Bringing this car for a service today and will post an update where that problem is coming from..

Very disappointed on Nissan and the dealership (Nissan Fremont) because they have a delivery confirmation document thing and it was there that they inspected the car before they let me drive it out of the dealership..
