CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012-2017 Nissan Versa has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

It didn't take very long for this thing to break. The nut that held it on pulled through the heat shield. When I took it to the dealer they "fixed" it by pulling the heat shield to the side and tightening the nut on the part of the shield that was under it. When it came loose again, I just took some larger diameter washers and put under the nuts. It has been good since.

This is the first car, used or new, I have owned that has had this problem. The dealer mentioned that they have had several cars come back for this problem. It appears Nissan has tried to address the same problem with their 2012 models but have not yet issued a recall for the 2013, probably because most of the cars returning for it are still under warranty so the customer is not having to pay for it.

I did get to keep the old part so I could look at it, it is really a cheesy, cheap piece of aluminum........probably cost them WAAAAAAAAY less to make than the $109.00 I had to pay for the new part! It's not so much the cost of the repair that is at issue, it is that we had taken the car in a year ago to get this part adjusted and then it came apart last month. If Nissan thinks they have the heat shield problem solved, they need to do some more analysis to come up with a more definitive root cause because it is continuing to be a problem on the 2013 models, not just the 2012.
