CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Camry used to be adorned with our “Seal of Pretty Good†but that was before an alarming number of complaints started rolling in for excessive oil consumption.
Owners are being caught off-guard with how quickly their cars are running out of oil. No leaks, no spills, just 1 quart of vanishing oil in as little as 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains this is “normal†for the 2AZ-FE engine, even though they issued a TSB for the problem in August of 2011.

My dashboard panel is melting in my car. The dashboard is completely sticky and everything that falls on it gets stuck and I cannot get it off the dashboard. I try to clean my car and cannot do anything to the dash. I try to wipe it down with water and a towel, but it just pulls the lint off a microfiber towel and it gets stuck. It is really irritating and I hope Toyota fixes my problem and takes responsibility for its defects. My entire family drives Toyota's and if they do not fix this issue, we will no longer have any ties with Toyota.
I received 1st notice from Toyota motor regarding factory waranty extension because of sticky dashboard about 2 years ago. I received 2nd notice last spring and brought my car to toyoto service and verified that my car dashboard need to be repkaced. The put the line for replacement and they were going to notify me. It was April 2016. When I called sevice after several months they said it back order and waiting for the parts. Then I decided to call toyoto motor custemer service and they said my order was in the line and within 6 months it will be in service. I said ok. Two dats ago I called touoto motor and ask when my dashboard will be delivered. They said they don't know it is back order. They said I am going to be notified. I wanted to talk their maneger. They said their mabager will call me. Today I have received call. She repeated same things. It is backorder they don't know when my dashboard will be replaced. I am very frustrated now. I don't thing that they have plan to satisfy their customer. They just act like they taking care the issue because if court order. I searcged many toyoto owner are waiting for toyoto services call them fir dashboard replacement but I belive that they don't have any serious action. Goverment offices myst start investigation and clarify what action and how many cars dashboard problem have been solved after the court order. It was safety problem and my government should push toyoto to solve this issue. I will try to find the court, the federal judge and inform that toyoto lying many toyoto owner and they don't take serious action to solve it. Their only answer the it is backorder part. You have to order that how many cars' dashboard have veen replaced over kast 2 years. The number will give idea how much they consider this issue seriously. It is big safety issue because of shiny dashboard.
My passenger side visor just broke about a month ago. It's a 2009, but purchased in 2008. Finally got my dashboard replaced last week alf asked about the visor. Toyota says they won't fix it since its passed the warranty time. I don't understand why not since it's a known issue, and dangerous to drive with it down all the time. I've loved my Camry, but to spend over $100 to fix the visor is steep.
2 year wait for a recalled dashboard. This is absurd. We are a family of 3 Toyota's and this one is an embarrassment. Surely, there is someone who can get this fix done. Please call me, 772-924-5022.
Sticky dashboard. Noticed 2 months ago that the whole dashboard is sticky/gummy. I have deposit on the inside surface of the windshield that is almost impossible to remove. Could the two be connected.

Sticky/deteriorating dashboard. Vehicle purchased brand new in 2009 from a Toyota dealer. Vehicle has never been serviced at a car wash. Spray products designed to preserve vinyl have never been applied. Noticed week of 9/1/2016 that the dashboard beneath the windshield is gummy. Prior to this discovery, we had been fighting a strange deposit on the inside surface of the windshield. We believe it was off gassing of the chemically changing dashboard.
Sticky dashboard. Depreaciated value to try to seel. Who would want it. Feel stuck. Frustrated. Sticky dashboard causing glare on window that can cause an accident when it sunny out.feel cheated by Toyota. I have bought Toyota for the last three cars. Not again. I feel like I can't sell it or even trade it without taking a lost on the value and its their fault not mind. I feel taken, screwed and want something done.
I purchased my 2009 Toyota Camry 2.4L while stationed in germany, it was manufactured to us specifications and I brought it stateside with me. I ran my VIN in the Toyota database to find out if the air bag or "sticky" dash board recalls applied to my vehicle. My VIN did not register in the Toyota database. I called Toyota and they ran my VIN, they explained that my vehicle was not visible in their database. The went on to explain, I would have to contact Toyota in Japan or germany for recall information and they would not be able to repair any recalls on my vehicle in the us. Does Toyota not have an obligation to ensure my vehicle was manufactured properly and with quality materials to ensure its safe operation?
My dashboard is extremely shiny and sticky. When it''s sunny out, the glare is so strong that it's difficult to see the road. Very scary at 60 mph. I live in sunny South Florida, so this is a problem 90% of the time.
Front spring coils breaking - right front broke while driving and when I took it in they told me the left front was also broken! cost me $500 to fix both!
On Wednesday, January 27,2016 I got out of my car, opened the trunk, took some things out, tried to close it, it bounced up. I found out the trunk lock pad would not lock, I was told to order a door lock actuator integrated with a latch. Received it, put it on and it did the same thing. This could cause more damage to the car and injury to a person especially if it happens in route. Put new part on and it wont lock. Feel its defective and Toyota should have to altar the situation.
The dashboard on the 2009 Toyota Camry is a danger for any owner. With the dashboard being sticky/melting, when light hits the dashboard it causes major blind spots that could cause major accidents. This is unacceptable for any automobile to be on the road when you could potentially run over people or hit other vehicles when the glare from the melting dashboard reflects off the windshield.
