CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2009 Camry used to be adorned with our “Seal of Pretty Good” but that was before an alarming number of complaints started rolling in for excessive oil consumption.

Owners are being caught off-guard with how quickly their cars are running out of oil. No leaks, no spills, just 1 quart of vanishing oil in as little as 1,200 miles. Toyota maintains this is “normal” for the 2AZ-FE engine, even though they issued a TSB for the problem in August of 2011.

premature tire wear

This is the fourth set of tires we have had to purchase, these are still fairly new, the biggest problem we have here is that it makes a terrible whomp whomp whomp going down the road, these are nearly new tires but now they are cupped, we have had them rotated and rotated again, but no matter what brand we purchase no matter how much we pay for them in a short time they begin to cup and to make that whomp whomp whomp noise as you go down the road, its a huge problem.

We took it to one location and had an alignment done, since we had just purchased a set of tires from this business we wanted to know what was going on with the tire...The technician told us that there was no camber adjustment on the rear wheels, so they could only do so much to try to correct the issue.

I have to question the idea that someone cut corners and produced a vehicle that has no method of aligning all four wheels, (if this is true and I have no reason to doubt it is) then we purchased a vehicle for nearly 30,000.00 and its worth has depreciated to a level far below what we expected, Toyota used to have the kind of resale value that Honda had, but no longer, this is a huge issue.

We feel taken advantage of and misled, adding the recalls and the bad PR and you have a vehicle that is worth substantially less than other vehicles in its same class.

We feel that Toyota should make this right but perhaps they have learned too much from other automobile manufacturers where you just deny delay and defend instead of doing the right thing.

Camry

  • 41,000 miles

I bought my 2009 Toyota Camry LE brand new. I currently have 41,000 miles and I'm about to install my third set of tires. The first set (Bridgestone) needed to be replaced at 19,000 miles due to excessive tread wear. I bought 4 new Goodyear tires, new alignment, and had suspension checked as recommended by the dealership. I have conducted all required tire rotation and balance at 5 - 6 K miles every time. Now I have 41,000 miles and severe cupping on both rear tires and minor cupping on both front tires. Major frustration!!!!!

Camry LE 2.4L

THIS IS MY FIRST TOYOTA AND I WAS RELATIVELY HAPPY WITH THE CAR TILL THE TIRES STARTED TO WEAR OUT AFTER ONLY 14,000 MILES. I NOTICED THAT THE NEEDS ARE INDICATOR KEPT COMING ON ALL THE TIME. I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY CAR AND ALWAYS CHECK THE AIR PRESSURE 32PSI. AFTER A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME THE TIRES WERE NOT CONSISTENTLY HOLDING AIR. DEALER SAID WHEN I TOOK CAR IN THAT TOYOTA STATED THAT THEY WOULD GIVE ME CREDIT FOR TWO NEW TIRES AND I HAD TO BUY THE OTHER TWO. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP THAT I WOULD BE GLAD TO GO AND BUY TWO OF THE SAME TIRES AT A BETTER COST TO ME AND GIVE ME THE TWO FREE TIRES. THIS WAS NOT TOYOTA'S POLICY I WAS TOLD SO I HAD TO BUY 2 TIRES FROM DEALER WHICH I KNOW I GOT RIPPED OFF. THEY COULD HAVE HAD THEIR TIRES BACK AFTER I HAD PURCHASED MY TWO NEW TIRES SOMEWHERE ELSE BUT THIS WAS NOT ALLOWED! I HAVE TWO GRIPES. ONE I WAS NOT TOLD THAT THOSE BRIDGESTONE TIRES ONLY HAD A GUARANTEE FOR 18 - 22,000 MILES AND WHY DID THEY PUT JUNK ON THESE CARS. ALSO, WHY SHOULD I HAVE HAD TO BUY ANY TIRES AT ALL. IF TOYOTA WAS WILLING TO GIVE ME TWO THEN THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN ME FOUR NEW TIRES. THE PROBLEM DID NOT HAPPEN BECAUSE OF MY DRIVING ...IT HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THE TIRES THEY PUT ON THIS CAR. WHY A "V" RATING TIRE THAT WOULD HOLD UP TO DRIVING THIS CAR AT 130MPH. ? WHO CAN DRIVE THIS FAST ANYWHERE IN THE U.S.?

all four tired completely bald on outside rims i think to faulty alignment- or possible suspension issues - i don't know - car wasn't driven all that often - and by a little old lady just in town, and interior rim of tires - the thing that hold the tire itself there bent. I questioned the people whom had to just repair the back right tire for me because a nail got in it. There bent- how does that happen on a new car????? Did this company have issues with alignment and suspension- car drive really really rough, and bumpy not like the smooth ride of the Camry i had to barrow when i took it in for 15000 workup- something is not correct.

The Bridgestone EL400 tires are shot! I have rotated tires as required and even had a wheel alignment @ 15,000 miles. I have spoken to other folks who have had this problem as well as 2 Prius owners. A former GM employee with 30 years of experience told me Toyota puts soft tires on cars for a better ride. The total cost of $750 works out to 40 cents per mile! Incidentally Bridgestone never replied to my e-mail and my Toyota dealer feigned ignorance. I will be filing a complaint with the NHTS shortly making them aware of this problem.

Needed new tires on my Camry at 15,000 miles even with all the right air pressure, rotation, etc. Bought 4 new Michelins at Sams Club with a 40,000 mile warranty and got only 25,000 miles on them before they were shot. Sam's Club looked at them and agreed to pro-rate them when I went in for my 3rd set. This tire crap is getting OLD! Love my Camry other than it eats tires like crazy.

I can't believe that I spent over $32,000 on a new 2009 Camry and that I only put on 25,000 miles and need new tire's already. That's messed up. The Toyota dealer told me that I should get new tire's and should get them as soon as possible that it's dangerous to drive on these tire's. The dealer told me that he could replace them for $700.00 dollar's. You would think that Toyota would have put on way better tire's on a $32,000. dollar car. I did not buy my new tire's from Toyota. And I don't think I will never buy another Toyota again. These tire's should of lasted alot longer. I wasn't going to complain about this but my friends and family talked me into writing and telling you about this. I feel like Toyota ripped me off they should of put good tire's on there new car's.

I can't believe I have to replace the tires already. they have 20,000 miles. It not like I drive like a teenager. I'm careful. The tread is just gone. Tires are expensive, but safety first. Would never buy a car with the same brand again, they were supposed to get 45,000 miles. What else is going to be wrong with the Camrys.

I paid too much money for everything to be breaking down after a year or so. Thats why I bought a new car instead of of used, so I wouldn't have everyone else's headaches, I SHOULD HAVE A FEW YEARS OF TROUBLE FREE CAR MAINTENANCE, INSTEAD, I'M ALREADY BEING NICKEL-ED AND DIMMED...WELL 100 DOLLARS here, 250 for check up and filters i was told i desperately needed, 800 for tires, and i'm still paying for the freaking car. Tires are so freaking expensive not to last for more than a year and a half. Plus my car insurance and registration are due and outrageous.
