First few months I owned my 2018 Camry XSE, the trunk would open up completely no matter what button I used to open it. Then it started getting to where every time I tried to open it, it would only pop up enough to get a finger under it and had to open it by hand. I posted on the Camry Facebook Group to see if anyone else's Camry opened up all the way on its own. I couldn't start to count all the videos that were posted of everyone's trunks opening all the way.
I made a appointment with Toyota of Louisville to have it looked at. Took it in on a Saturday and waited a few hours only to be told the tech supposedly tried it 30 times and it opened all the way every time. The service manager gave me my paperwork and key fob and said they couldn't duplicate. I took my Key Fob, walked to my car and tried it 5 times. All 5 times it didn't open. I went back inside and got the Service Manager to walk out to the car with me, and I showed him. I used the FOB button, didn't open. Used the inside button, didn't open. Used the button on the trunk, it started to open then stopped. He said, "That's weird. Our tech tried it 30 times and it worked every time". He said "I'll go ahead and order the trunk strut and springs".
Called a few dealers in town and in other states with the part numbers and they said its a known problem and there are over 85 on national back order.
