The transmission failed in my 2018 Toyota Camry se on 5/19 after a month of issues of rough shifting and slipping. I had it towed to the local Toyota dealer the next day i got a quote of 7500. for repair . I disagreed with the advisor and told them i would look else where. The next day i got a new quote of 6745.00 so i told them go ahead so i had to borrow the money from lender. My car was there 8 days when I picked it up I was told it was great no issues to speak of.
I drove the car Thursday to Saturday when it broke down again i may have put 30 miles on it maybe. So i had it towed back to the dealer later that day i got a call and the problem was is that it blew a hydraulic line and the oil leaked. I know some about hydraulics because i operated heavy equipment when i was younger. I was told i could pick the car up Monday so i got a call and i was told there's a code showing a solenoid issues and it may have been bad before i had the transmission replaced. So that started a fire storm because i could not understand how it was not inspected. I calmed down and told them to fix it but i was not going to pay for it because lack of hydraulic fluid in the hydraulic block causes damage and it wasn't my fault.
Here is the icing on the cake i got a call the next morning 6/2 saying now there's a code on the scanner showing that my new transmission has to be replaced i was just stunned i didn't know what to say. I am again without a car i have no idea when i will get my car back i am beyond angry i don't how they are going to fix this crap all i want to know is how to get in with this class action lawsuit i want my money back so i can pay this loan off if anyone can help especially the administration on this site i am asking for any advice that can be offered thank you all JW
I’ve always trusted Toyota for reliability, but my recent experience with their transmission has been a nightmare. I bought a new car 2018 Camry. Which gave me 5 year warranty/60000km . After 5 year and relatively low mileage ( 62000 km), my car started having serious transmission problems and suddenly its failed on the road. I towed it to the dealership and they diagnosed my car with transmission failure and need to replace it, which will cost me over 8k. I called the Toyota where I purchased my car and she said they wont me able to help me with the cost or warranty. I’ve always heard Toyota vehicles are dependable, but this has completely changed my view. I’m really disappointed and feel like I’ve wasted my money on a brand I thought I could count on. Avoid if you're looking for a car that will last without major issues.
Subject: Complaint Regarding 2018 Toyota Camry
I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding my 2018 Toyota Camry. Recently, the transmission failed unexpectedly, leaving me without transportation and facing an extremely costly repair.
I purchased this vehicle expecting Toyota’s reputation for reliability and longevity. However, experiencing such a major mechanical issue on a 2018 model is both frustrating and unacceptable. I have always maintained my vehicle properly, and I did not anticipate such a severe problem with a relatively newer car. I had some choice words of DISAPPOINTMENTS.
This situation has caused significant inconvenience and financial burden. I believe Toyota should address this issue, as it appears I am not the only Camry owner experiencing premature transmission failure especially the 2018. I would appreciate any assistance, including potential coverage for repairs or a recall investigation.
Please advise on the next steps and any options available to resolve this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.
1: Car hesitates to speed up from a full stop or while in motion.
2: RPM's go over 3000 before car reacts (2-3 seconds delay) , dangerous specially when taking curves or merging into traffic (highways, fast traffic roads).
3: I feel a "hiccup" like movement while in motion (sometimes).
4: Car hesitates to shift or shifts whit excessive power.
5: Downshifts and loss of acceleration (it happens erratically)
6: I heard a soft metal-to-metal "knock" sound when I lift my foot from gas pedal while in motion.
Until now this are the symptoms I'm experiencing with my 2018 Camry 4-Cyl, certainly something I wasn't expecting from a Toyota product.
The unpredictable behavior of this car is dangerous, I never know when is going to response as it should do or when I'll have to floor it so it can rev up and finally move.
Transmission usually shifts fine, kind of jerky but not bad. The problem occurred twice today, no reverse. Good thing I was in my driveway and not on a busy street trying to parallel park quickly. Had the car since the 1st of April 2018. This issue must be addressed. I encourage anyone who has an issue with the transmission to mention it; I'm not sure if mine is common, but definitely dangerous for an inexperienced driver.

Had the brand new 2018 car 6 weeks, less than 2,000 miles on it. Pulled out of my garage and up a slight incline out of my neighborhood. It felt randomly like the transmission slipped or it shifted weirdly, but made it to the top of the incline and seemed fine. Went to turn left onto the major roadway I take to work and gave it some gas, the car lightly lurched forward, and then the engine just revved without catching as the slight momentum continued and I went out across 4 lanes. Amazingly (and thankfully) there was a rare window of almost no traffic either direction on this super busy stretch of road, and I was able to coast a few hundred feet down the hill and into a business parking lot safely. Put the vehicle in park, tried to go again with no luck. Turned it off and back on, tried again with no luck, only the slightest movement forward before it would crap out again. Tried paddle shifting instead, also no luck, eventually had to be towed to the dealership. Toyota has been good so far, but as it stands they said the trans is totally shot and they're replacing the entire transmission and covering everything.
Just bought this vehicle in October and from the start I could tell it had transmission issues. Thought it was just the way the new 8sp performed. They are going to replace the entire tranny under warranty. Not happy about this because it only has 2k miles. Would like them to give me another car but we will see how that goes. bought the car from Toyota of Lancaster CA. I plan to take them to task over this and see how they respond.
