Ford Expands Takata Airbag Recalls by 953,000 Vehicles
Takata recall announced for Ford Edge, Fusion, Mustang, Ranger, Lincoln MKZ, MKX, Mercury Milan.

— Another Ford/Takata recall is in the works as the automaker announces about 953,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada will be brought back to dealerships to replace passenger frontal Takata airbag inflators.

It's the fourth expansion of recalls ordered after multiple deaths and injuries were caused by metal Takata airbag inflators that exploded and sent shrapnel into vehicle occupants.

Although Honda is the primary automaker affected by deaths attributed to exploding Takata airbags, Ford has certainly faced the same issues as two Ranger truck drivers have been killed by the airbags.

In 2018, Ford settled a class-action lawsuit over Takata airbags and at the same time increased its outreach program to contact affected customers.

For this latest recall, about 782,384 of the following vehicles are in the U.S. and 149,652 are recalled in Canada.

  • 2010 Ford Edge
  • 2010 Lincoln MKX
  • 2010-2011 Ford Ranger
  • 2010-2012 Ford Fusion
  • 2010-2012 Lincoln MKZ
  • 2010-2011 Mercury Milan
  • 2010-2014 Ford Mustang

Ford dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflators or modules, but the automaker didn't announce when the recall will begin.

Customers with questions should call 866-436-7332 and ask about recall number 19S01.
