This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The windshield wipers worked intermittently, and resulted in poor visibility when driving during inclement weather. Related recall 98V150001, but the vehicle was not included due to the vehicle identification number. This occurred everytime the wipers were on. The consumer had to jiggle the connection or tap on the motor.
Windshield wiper motor on my 1998 Chevrolet Blazer operates interrmitently, at times. Has not been much of a problem until yesterday on the way home in a down pour. The wipers just stopped. Began working again a few minutes later, after I was able to exit the freeway.
My 98 Blazer's windshield wipers have a mind of their own. They come on by themselves, go off when they want to. On intermittent, they do whatever speed they feel like doing, and can shut themselves off at anytime (it doesn't matter if they were just turned on or not). It is dangerous and there should be a recall on this year (there's been one on every other year)! please help resolve this situation GM!
Windshield wipers stop intermittently, a real problem at high speeds during a storm. This is a known issue by Chevrolet, has happened on S-10 pickups, the solder develops cracks which causes the failures. Please be sure to sue Chevrolet for not doing a recall.
Windshield wiper motor failed intermittently while in use. Which resulted in poor visibility. When operated on medium and high speeds the consumer was able to re-start by shutting the wipers down. The last time the incident occurred during a heavy rain storm. The dealer said there was nothing they could do.
1998 chevroleter 4X4 4door. Windshield wipers on the front quit working. Have worked on and off for 2 months. Can get them to work after placing a zip strap around motor and wires and pulling real tight. This looks like an identical problem that a previous recall was performed on. I also have had to replace the wiper motor in my 91 chevroletk 3 times. Sometimes they would work. Sometimes they wouldn't. this apparently is a big problem with chevroletr motors as my friends are having similar problems as well with various Chevy trucks and Blazer.
The seat back, transfer case, and windshield wiper motor all failed. The parking brake was adjusted, the air condition blew warm air, and the oil cooler lines were replaced.
Windshield wipers do not operate reliably enough that they should be considered a hazard. They stop working on almost every occasion that they are required for visibility and often will not stop when turned off and additionally the speed at which they will operate is also unreliable. I have been able to get the wipers to resume operation when I have tapped on the circuit board cover but they usually stop again before I reach my destination and often before I get back out on the road. From the number of complaints that I have read of and personally heard about concerning this model year (and also other model years) with this same problem I feel that it is outrageous that a recall has not been issued to correct this problem that appears to be known by the manufacturer and even acknowledged so by the manufacturer in the previous model year. Serious consequences will arise when these faulty wiper systems fail a the most critical of times, if it hasn't already.
While driving the vehicle the windshield wipers become disfunctional in heavy rains, they completely stop working consumer had to pull over until the rain subsided. The consumer spoke to the dealer and manufacturer. The consumer stated that there was a recall on the particular issue which is not in our system. Please provide vehicle identification number along with any other information regarding this issue.
Windshield wipers will not engage. Some times they will come on and not stop. When its raining they will not come on at all. Up until recently this has been the issue. Two days ago it decided that it wasn't going to work at all. So I cannot drive my car in the rain and cannot afford to have the motor repaired at the dealer for 600.
Windshield wipers stopped during heavy down pour. Chevrolet customer assistance center (cac) says contact selling dealer. Dealer supposedly replaced "wiper module", but did not help. Repeated contact with cac produces "ho-hum" and no solution. Vehicle has 26543 miles on it!
The windshield wipers have failed repeatedly while in use. The wipers change speed on their own and/or turn themselves off on their own. This condition appears to be related to the wiper motor wiring or circuitry to the wiper motor side of the wiring harness. Have had the delay switch replace once and the motor replaced once but the problem keeps returning. I have been told that this problem is the same as the one found under #98043.
The windshield wipers have failed repeatedly while in use. The wipers change speed on their own and/or turn themselves off on their own, sometimes within the field of view of the driver. This condition appears to be related to the wiper motor wiring or circuitry to the wiper motor side of the wiring harness. I have been able to restart the wipers by jiggling the wiring harness, but obviously this is not a safe condition.
Chevy's motto for their trucks on their website is...... " the most dependable long lasting trucks on the road " I bought a 1998 Chevy Blazer in decmber 2001...........this truck is not dependable nor is it long lasting. I have been concerned about the recalls on this vehicle. A representative from Chevy told me that my vehicles VIN # was not part of this recall. Is there any way I can verify this without having to pay for it? my VIN # is [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
