This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that a strong fuel odor was noticed when the driver parked the vehicle. A mechanic inspected the vehicle and found that the fuel pump module fractured. The fuel pump module was not replaced. The vehicle was not taken a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 12V459000 (fuel system gasoline). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 83,652.
Smelled gas emitting from vehicle while parked, next day strong smell in vehicle, uncomfortable while driving. Took to garage and was told it was under recall for fuel pump and lines from the fuel pump. Took to GM dealership and was told that the fuel lines were cracked and disintergrated, (cited "northern car"). having no recall effect. Pay $850 plus out of pocket.
Issue #1) fuel leak from top of fuel tank. This creates a strong fuel smell in cabin during any operation, and fuel leaking on driveway after operation. Fumes are strong enough that any open flame in cabin would detonate creating death and/or critical injury. The fuel pump has been replaced once in Aug 2017 costing over $600 dollars. Issue #2) both interior front door handles have broken resulting in doors being unable to open doors normally. To open doors, windows must be cranked down opening doors using the outside handle. The failure area is where door latch cable connects to rear of door handles. Both door handles have been replaced, but replaced service handles have sharp edges from plastic flash. Both issues are critical to safe vehicle operation. This could result in death and/or critical injury if either issue fails during any vehicle operation. As a disabled veteran, husband and father, both vehicle issues are dangerous and lack the resources to keep repairing these failures. An investigation, recall and/or replacement is needed asap.
I first had noticed my front passenger speaker would cut in and out. It didn't matter if the car was stationary or if I was driving. The following week I was driving through the parking lot of my job and the doors locks started locking and unlocking rapidly by themselves. And now they rarely ever do either when I try and push the lock buttons. So they either have to stay locked or unlocked depending the mood of the car. The following week I had a gas leak and had to have it serviced because that is very dangerous. The mechanic told me that there was a recall on that plastic piece to fuel system but only in southern states and I live in the North. And not to long after that my turn signal switch wouldn't stay on or it wouldn't shut off by it's self. Also dangerous trying to hold switch on while making a turn.
My fuel pump assembly return on the module cracked and disengaged from the pump (equinox) resulting in a bad gas leak. I had to replace it Friday, August 10, 2018. The cost was $691.60.

Strong gasoline odor from vehicle when parked and during operation. Very likely same problem addressed in NHTSA campaign 09V419000. Recommend that recall should include all model years with faulty fuel pump assembly, and should apply nationwide, not just "hot" states.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact noticed a strong odor of fuel and noticed fuel leaking underneath the vehicle. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was not working. The dealer (sunrise Chevrolet Buick GMC, 4605 S houston levee rd, collierville, tn 38017) was contacted and a technician informed the contact the dealer would not be responsible for the repair cost since the vehicle was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 263,000.
Recall !! my car VIN # doesn't have any recalls but my car fits the description of the recall fuel leakage around where the hose hooks up and also my fuel gage doesn't work
The fuel line rust out and leaks gas. This is a very dangerous situation but apparently not covered by recall 12V459000. This gas leak should defiantly included in that recall. My car is driven by a teenager and he did not notice the leak until I saw it. The repairs were over $800. This happened to both of our Chevy Cobalts in the same week.
I reported this back in 2016-1-28 ref.no.10822806 gas line corrosion problem, do to muffler right under gas lines and gas line up in pocket where heat and moisture cause early corrosion(poor design). GM had go me to a dealership and confirm corrosion problem (wanted 750 dollars to fix). Talk to rep.for GM, mentioned I felt poor design and protental safety =may cause fire. Did have fix at garage for 200dollars. Now corroding again after 2yrs. This confirms gas lines in pocket up above muffer traps heat and mositure causeing corrosion. Please advise company does not want to listen to me and I can't afford to replace gas line every 2yrs.. feel strongly about poor design and GM should be responsible. Fire hazard this is same car that had key problem, steering problem, gas line problem at tank and gas pump, yet they don't want to listen, help help help!!!!
Strong smell of gasoline coming from vehicle. Hesitation upon first starting vehicle. Obvious signs of a gasoline leak from cracked fuel pump modulator which posed a fire risk.
Gas leaks from under the gas tank right above the muffler. Consistent drip onto the muffler and onto the ground. This not only causes an injury risk but it has a financial impact as the gas leaks and cost money.
Fuel leak - fuel line and evap line are steel and routed neat driver rear wheel. Fuel and evap line are exposed to road salts and other environmental factors resulting in corrosion leading to fuel leaks
