I have a 2000 Impala Chevrolet. I bought it last year used. Worked good for about 6 months and starting having problems. It got to where it would not start. Messed with it and it finally would start. Was told it was the ignition, so my son changed it out. That was 200.00 dollars. Still did not fix the problem. Now it won't start at all. The bad thing is that I still owe my sister for the car. Don't now what to except to try and come up with the money to take it the car dealership. Does anyone have any ideas

I am 20 yrs old, I own a 2000 impala LS 3.8 160,000 miles,My car will NOT start, it will not crank over NOTHING... The battery is brand new, the altinator is perfectly fine, the starter is fine and the bypass theft system thing is FINE.. my security light is NOT on !!! I dont understand,,, Everyone here sounds like they have the same problem, but they can wait and there car will start, mine will not ! ive tryed having my dad start with a screw driver under the car,, runs for 2 seconds and dies, ( figured it would ) ive been trying a few times through-out the day for a week and it has not done anything !, radio/ lights/ heat/ ac all comes on, just when I turn the key over nothing happens... I have a feeling this is a SIMPLE fix so I dont wanna spend 500 taking to my local dealership yet !!! Plugged OBD2 scanner in to read codes, my car is passing everytime sense ive disconnected the battery sense this problem started, please someone help me ?!!?

I see this problem has been well discussed but is still going on......... The problem I had was that the ignition switch would not turn at all. Had a friend who is handy with cars so we went to the auto part store and purchased a new ignition switch and lock key set.

Took about 2 hours to install it( would have been been shorter but we had to cut the oul housing out because it will not slide out unless you can turn the key),,,,, but nevertheless we got it out. Replaced everything and put it back together, and then turn the key and nothing.......... Not looking good my friend said, he was out of Ideas, so I took my turn doing what I do best.... Looking things up on the PC.. I came across this site and started reading and low and behold, everyone here was having the same problem I was.

I just want to first say thanks to you guys for taking the time to write out the solutions to fixing this, and to let everyone who comes behind me know that it does work when you. 1 turn the key to start it 2 let it go looking for the security light to blink 6 times and then battery 3 let it stay in the on position for 10 min 4 cut it off for 5 secs 5 repeat those steps until it cranks..... should be no more then 3 times..

O.M.G. I am amaze to see so many people having the same problem as me. I've been having my impala since August of last year and the problem has been going on since then.It started to where i would drive some where and the car would just go dead and i would try and cut it on and the nothing but the radio would play so me not knowing nothing about a car i thought i needed a boost a guy informed me i had to much power to need a boost a couple of more tries and it started, so another day i go somewhere and order food and it does this again and im like oh lord what is wrong, and after attempting to start the car over and over it finally cranked. But, it does it like 5 more times over a few months and my carlot replaces fuel injector. but anyhow its a year later and the car is still doing it and it does it now 3 times a day.In the morning before taking my son to school and here lately its been cutting off while driving. i am so sick of this problem but i am going to try one more option.

I'm glad to see so many people in the same set of wheels as I am. I thought I was losing it. I explained the problem to my friends and they all said it was the solenoid or the starter. But when the key is turned it doesn't even attempt to kick over, it has plenty of power but none is being used. It's all fun and games till some one gets a case of the ass. I'm in the military, drove to PT formation ran 4 miles came back to my car and it wouldn't start, went through the whole clicking whirling crap and 50 mins later it started up. That was last week I dismissed the whole thing as an isolated incident....yeah. I was called up by a cohort to aid him in finding a deer he downed I came helped out on the way back another friend bagged a big pig (150lbs) I stopped and helped him out. Now it's time to go home and eat dinner and oh yeah it's raining now, nope it's not gonna happen won't start. At this point I still have no idea what's actually the problem, my buddy's tapping on the starter to no avail. I was going to have him bring a trailer in to move the vehicle which currently is on some dirt road waiting to be hopefully started in the morning. Good thing I found this web site I was well on my way to stimulating the local economy. Chevy....hope you've invested my money wisely cause it's the last you're getting from me or my family. I was impressed by the Impala, but not even taking responsibility for you're vehicles is shameless. Don't you know one bad dealing with your company is enough to make you lose your clientele base overnight? Cool Toyota's from here on out! I'll be contacting my local Jag office to see what can and should be done, along with contacting all the appropriate channels of congress and senate to make sure the lines of communication are open and clear. As a leader communication is thee most important thing of any operation. You have communicated to the people (that have purchased the Chevy impala) that you will not take responsibility for your company, thus making peoples lives more difficult with everyday use of your products. Commo check is clear! And the worst thing is the blue collar workers are the ones to pay for white collar ass clown decisions. Thanks

I have seen many comments on this problem. Car starts when it feels like it. A mechanic I know told me about it being a security problem- my car thinks I am stealing it. He told me to clean my key with alcohol - this worked for about 3 weeks then my car started now starting again. Luckily I had had a spare key made a few years earlier in which there isn't a chip or whatever is in my other one. I have been using this key and even when the security light is flashing it allows me to start it. At present I haven't been stuck without it starting for about 6 weeks so hopefully this will continue to work. Hope maybe this will help anyone else with this problem, however a friend of mine told me that he can't believe it actually starts my car seeing as I had this key made at walmart.

THIS SUCKS! WTF? So I live in CO and sometimes our winter temperatures get down in the single digits. Why is it that this clicking and dash light show only happen when you're freezing your ass off? I see that many others have had to wait 10 minutes up to a couple hours for their cars to start... luckily... I guess, mine has always started within a like 2 minutes. But, if screws up the radio and resets the time and messes up who knows what else you don't notice. I've also noticed that when this happens, it puts a trouble code into the computer. Luckily, my brother has one of the little hand-held computer things the dealers plug into the car computer and I can clear the code with it. Prevents the problem for a while but by no means fixes the issue. Having the trouble code in the computer seems to make the problem worse... I feel sorry for those that have to go to the dealer to have it cleared as it take about 30 seconds to clear but will cost you $80 or more!
