I had not had the car for long when i had parked and when i went to back out the shifter was stuck in park. Had it not been for someone who guess what? Had a friend with the same problem with his Chevy impala so he new exactly what to door it would have cost me some bucks i didn't have at the time and no car to drive. The guy opened my shifter cover and showed me a little kinda sideways kinda button inside that would release the shifter out of park. I drove my car around for about a year or so with a screwdriver down the side of my seat so i could hit the little silver button then shift out in to the other gears. It was an embarrassing pain in the ass and

I called GM to personally thanked GM and thus the told me to piss off it's not there problem now. And then I told them that the square cup holders in the car should have been my first visual clue. NEXT TIME I'M BACK TO FORD!!!!! I also reported them to all other safety and government agencies i could think of cause GM DONT WANT TO OWN their defects!! And there is more in my next complaint. I hope anyone having this problem can benefit from this info about this shifter. And on to the next complaint. Door locks dont work And front defroster wont defrost and its not a blown fuse.

not shifting out of park

This is the third time I have had this problem. I again have no car to get to work. I cannot afford to get my car towed to a garage and then pay the outrageous cost to get it repaired. It is very frustrating not only to not have a car but to have to depend on someone to get to work. I bought the car so I did not have to depend on that and I have another car just in case I have a problems with my main car. Now since this has happened three times I am more hesitant to go places in that car. I have had a neighbor mechanic to fix my car since I am not able but I am not sure exactly each time it was the dame thing. I think it has something to do with an electrical grounding wire coming loose which could happen anytime and anyplace. This has me very cautious as to when and where or why it does this.

The problem is getting someone to fix the car or get it towed. I have a neighbor who is a mechanic and can fix it but it is not easy pinning him down to get him to look at it. I need this car because my daughter now has a job and she uses my extra car to get to work. Luckily we work at different times and I can take her to work but she gets off late and I have to wake up to go pick her up. Because of my work schedule it is hard to get off and be available to get the car towed and get it picked up. This will cost me money and for something that probably is not a hard fix if it was not in such and awkward location and in a place where it makes no sense that it should be happening. There has to be something vibrating to cause this to come loose and not let the car come out of park.
