I bought my 96 Suburban used from a dealer in 2004. I had this problem as well in July 2005. Was told by the mechanic that this is a common problem with Chevy Suburbans at about 80000 miles. Funny thing is it looks as though someone (Dealership) had tried to cover it up with stop leak.
I had bought it used and it ran great but I had to drive it with the leaking manifold and instead of the 800 dollars I had to put in new engine in in 2006 at 135000 miles for $3000.
Now two years later and 32000 miles later same problem.
Best fix, buy foreign.
