This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
First, Side Detection System warning light would come on, then all dashboard gauges would fail and go to position as if the car war turned off, doors and windows would not unlock or open, series of warning messages would pop up as if all systems were malfunctioning. Car would still drive but if you turn the engine off all electrical systems would stay on for a extended period of time. Vehicle would not start, even with a jump start. After sitting for 12 hours, would start again and repeat shutdown after running for about 3-5 minutes.
While driving approximately 70 miles an hour and trying to switch lanes, we got a stabilitrack warning and the car shut off for a second and then came back on. the weather was nice and there was no snow or any other adverse conditions. This happened a couple more times on the ride and then when we tried to turn into a parking spot it shut off completely and we had to restart it. We turned stabilitrack off and the car was ok for a couple of short drives. Then driving late at late and we passed another car the same thing happened. Then when we tried to turn our brights on we got the same message. Then we got a brake assist message and then we got a collision alert. The headlights were flickering the rest of the drive and we couldnt use our brights. We had our 4 children in the car and it was shutting down at high speeds and very scary. I looked up our vin and it said that the recalls had been worked on but I dont remember this being done. This has never happended before this. our car would be available for inspection if needed.
Vehicle lost power steering turning a tight left into a parking space at a low speed on 5/18/2024. A second later, the engine and all electrical in the vehicle went dead. The steering locked and nothing electrical in the vehicle was functional. Based on the online information and comments found, this is a significant problem with the 2015 Suburban. The GMC recall number is 14743. The recall was for replacement of the power steering assist motor kit. When I look up my vehicle on the recall listing there are no recalls for my vehicle. There is an obvious problem which is effecting these vehicles and dealers shouldn't question the safety implications of steering and engine failure while the vehicle is moving.
It started with a glitch with the radio/navigation system flashing back and forth and not working. The cooling fan on the vehicle would run for about 10 minutes. The blind spot warning would blink on and off and there was no one else on the road. Then two days later the check engine light came on for about 5 days. Then three days later there was a loss of battery power and the indication light came on stating the car was in battery save mode. Then two days later the power steering system was lost on the highway and all the warning lights on the dash were flashing. The car stalled and refused to start. The tow truck driver tried to jump the vehicle with a battery pack that would jump a diesel and he only got enough power to put the car in neutral.
Vehicle loses power steering when turning at slow speeds which was part of a recall from 2018. Reflashing the module didn't fix the issue and has been doing it again for a year now except that now it occasionally loses power as well and has twice lost power while I was turning and oncoming traffic coming at me. GM is saying it is not the same issue as the prior recall, but I disagree and that the work done prior didn't fix the safety hazard. An 8 year old vehicle shouldn't be losing power while driving to where the battery cables have to all be replaced. That should have been the work GM did back when they first put out the recall for the loss of power steering.
The power steering locks up at random times while I am driving my vehicle. It seems to be temporary loss of power steering because it eventually starts working again. It feels almost impossible to turn the car when this happens. I searched online and found there had been a recall on the EPS (Electric Power Steering) for this exact issue. I called the local dealership, they told me after searching my vin that the recall had already taken place in 2019. The repair or recall that was done did not fix the problem.
When turning at speeds below 20 mph, motor stops lights go out, lights and gauges will come back on and car can be started. This has happened two or three times over the last three months but now only five days apart.
The Service Trailer Brake System keeps popping up. Keeps dinging off and on whether you push the dismiss button or not. When this is on I question if the electrical brakes will work when I tow our camper. It is very distracting while driving. Safety Concern for sure!
The system that is failing is on my Suburban is the Trailer Break System, yes it is available for inspection. The continuous alert is distracting to the point of the vehicle being un-drivable and without the trailer break system functioning properly it puts people in danger due to not being able to safely stop while towing. The dealership said they were unable to reproduce the code. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone except the dealership. Yes, both a visual and audible alert pops up continuously with a loud -??ding-?? and a -??Service Trailer Break System-?? warning.
Purchased vehicle in March 2020, have had 4 instances of making a left hand turn and vehicle shuts off. Have read that steering assist recall was done, but from what I've read this is exactly what it is doing, low speed and making a turn. Any suggestions or have others experienced same? date is last time but has happened about 4X S now since last summer.
Driving today in snow, increased electrical demand on vehicle while accelerating. Smelled burning wires and all dash lights flickered then died. Engine turned off and had to be restarted with the push button. Happened within 30 minutes later while accelerating onto a main road with traffic, lost control of vehicle and had to force the steering wheel to turn the vehicle off the road to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic.
On several occasion the touch screen display has failed to turn on. This screen is used for the display of the backup camera, the audio, HVAC, and other controls. This has typically happened when the vehicle was first started, though it has happened while the vehicle was in motion. At wich point the display remains blank and my not work untill after shutting down the vehicle and restarting it again. This is an intermittent problem.
Vehicle sensors and warning lights illuminated while the car was in motion on the highway. Pulled car off at nearest exit and turned ignition off. Could not re-start vehicle for 10 min. Finally car started, drove it to dealer, they said it was a loose ground cable & tightened connection. 3 months later vehicle caught fire while in motion going 25mph on street. Burned cables coming off battery terminal. GM ceased investigation due to the battery in vehicle was not the original factory battery.
