This is my 3rd gen Suburban and quite disappointed that the transmission failed at this mileage. The dealer did quote $7000 to replace the transmission. I usually don't keep american cars over 80,000 miles for this reason and sure enough it failed me for keeping this at over 101,000 miles. last year was my fuel pump and now this. BUYER BE WARY.

Transmission failed without any warning on the highway. Working with the dealer, but this should not be happening at 68,000 mikes.

transmission failure transmission failure

During a relocation from Texas to NM the transmission started jerking during downshifts, at one point the vehicle stalled out. After restarting we drove another few miles before it would go anymore. Chevrolet dealership in Alamogordo pulled the pan and discovered a lot of metal in the transmission which means it was a total failure. We had the transmission serviced at the dealer at 40,000 miles and it craps out at 77,000. I remember the older suburbans would run 200,000 miles consistently before transmission failure which is why I chose a suburban this time. I guess the new ones are crap. Multiple other problems will list on here as well. Definitely done with GMC products after being a loyal customer for over 30 years.

The worst car ever!!! Our air conditioning went out when the car was just a year old and the dealership wouldn't pay for it, so we paid out of pocket. Now, at just four years old, the transmission failed. We're paying 4000K to get it replaced and our mechanic said it was awful inside. So disappointed with GM! We'll never buy a GM car again.

This is getting to be a very expensive vehicle to own.

Suburban LTZ

  • Automatic transmission
  • 128,000 miles

There has been an issue with this transmission almost right from the beginning. Upon reporting this to the dealership they reassured me that this is just how it is supposed to shift. I knew better than that. It has remained a problem in which I reported several times to the dealership service department. Each time I got the brush off. Now that it is out of warranty the transmission has taken a sh*t!!! Make sure that you get documentation on every problem reported to the service center.
