The dash control panel has stopped working or only certain items showing speed, temp and oil pressure work on occasion. After searching online for repair options there are a number of complaints for the same problems for this specific vehicle.

I purchased my 2004 Trailblazer of the original owner with 35000 miles on the speedometer. At 75000 miles the door locks started clicking as if locking and unlocking. I took it to a Chevy dealer and the mechanic said it was definitely strange and I would need to make an appointment to have them look at it. Just him saying definitely strange to my ears said expensive. My sister had the same vehicle different color and hers had the same problem. Now how strange is that? I broke the appointment and got used to the clicking. Sometimes it would stop for a week or so and click some more. The clicking was loud as if you could imagine the sound when you lock all the doors with one click. Click click click click every half minute or so. Then the tachometer went nuts. Sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. same with the gas gage, oil pressure, temp gage and battery. Once the wipers wouldn't come on while being caught in a rain storm. The started working again about 15 miles later. Now the electric door locks are acting up setting off the alarm. I no longer lock the doors due to the alarm going off for no reason. Deactivating the alarm can be a chore as pushing the correct button to shut it up only works after pushing it a few times. We have checked for pinched wires and checked the fuses to no avail. Without these electrical problems I would be one happy customer!

I bought this car about 4 years ago and it has been nothing but an elecitrical mess. First my head lights would go out once a month, then a couple times a month, then once a week. My brake lights started doing the same. Our famliy mechhanic couldn't figure it out, he just kept replacing them and sending the bad bulbs in for warranty. A couple times the pigtails and lamps had to be replaces. Also 3 seperate occasions both headlights went out at once while driving. And I had to drive home in the dark with no head lights on. I took it the Chevy dealership after the third time abd apparently my fuse box was melted and needed to be replaced. Spent over $1000 doing that and it worked okay for about a year. Then headlights started going out again and brake tlights as well. Not once a week, but still about once a month or every other month. Recently my drivers window stopped working and I couldn't control the master switch to lock my car or roll up my windows. The cluster panel in the door needed to be replaced. Also, had two sensors that needed to be replaced because my 4 wheel drive, parking brake, and crusie control would stop working all at once and the lights would be lit up on the dashboard. I wasnt' able to use any of them until the sensor was replaced. Also the power shorted out in my side mirros, so I can't adjust the mirrors with the control or they start tiliting back and forth like crazy on their own. I have to get out of the car and adjust them manually. GM needs to do a recall, this car is not safe and I will not be buying a GM car while I look for a new car soon.

This was actually the second or third incident where the key got stuck in the ignition, Blazer was in park the lights remained on so did the radio anything that is typically on during aux, but this was the beginning of a long problem that lead to me trading off..the key gets stuck you can not remove it caused the battery to go bad, it would begin to happen often the service engine soon light would come on, the transmission would not shift above 3rd gear, also shortly after the purchase in Sept of 2011 the speedometer stopped working. The Blazer died 3 times gauges on dash would periodicly stop working. My service 4 wheel would come on randomly the key issue was the biggest problem but it was only a matter of time before other things went wrong. When the key would get stuck in the igintion as stated the transmission would not shift properly in the beginning the transmission would act out once you took it out of park it was noticeable but as the problem became worse it started happening driving down the highway I noticed once that I have successfully made it through 1-2-3 but never got out of 3. I should state that when the key was stuck I would have to manually shift through the first and second then put it into drive otherwise the car had no power because it would be stuck in the higher gear.tried to contact the dealership as there was a recall on the dash for the 2003 model and they told us it wasnt a safety problem I do not understand how random loss of power and random car dying is not a safety issue, I have been watching the list of GM recalls and I have not seen much about the Trailblazers, and it bothers me that I am sure there are other issues like the ones that I had. On another note transmission related my neighbors just had to get rid of their Trailblazer 2006 for transmission problems.

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the ignition switch could be turned without the key being in the ignition, causing the battery to drain. The key was removed and the ignition switch remained in the accessory mode which caused that battery failure. The contact had to constantly to check to ensure that the ignition was in the off position after removing the key. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000...updated 08/11/14 updated 08/19/2014

Instrument gauge cluster shorting out... started with tach, then oil gauge, now speedometer. Seems to be an epidemic with many GM vehicles, other models recalled, clearly a manufacturing issue. GM needs to include Trailblazer in recall.

My complaint is that I contacted Chevy dealer and advised of so many issues I have had with my vehicle since the purchase mainly most recent is the driver signal light will not come on and it was recalled 2004 recall# turn signal 05V198000 in which they advised me that the campaign has expired and therefore mine cannot be replaced. I have already almost had 3 car crashes because the signal is not working. I do not understand why Chevrolet did not replace when it is clear this is life threatening regardless of when the recall was put into force.

I have a 2004 Chevrolet trail Blazer. My speedometer hand just stopped working, it is stuck at 120mph. I tried shutting my SUV off and turning it on and even unhooking the battery, but it still doesn't work... the dealer said it will cost me $500+ to get it fixed.. why isn't there a recall on this?? I know a lot more people who have replaced the part twice and it still fails out. I am unemployed and have no income at all and it makes it hard on good honest people who need ways of transportation. I think there should be a recall on these. Its not that fact that I cant pay for getting it fixed, its just a hazard and could make more problems in the future, like speeding tickets!

The instrument cluster for the dashboard began to fail. First, the RPM gauge no longer worked. After a little time had passed, the temperature gauge failed, then the battery gauge, then oil and gas. When various mechanics were asked about the problem, I was informed that it was a very common problem for Trailblazers and similar vehicles manufactured by GM. When GM was informed of this, they told me it was not under warranty and thus I would be responsible in fixing it.

While driving at night noticed no low beam head lights. Flipped to high beam and they worked. Called a friend who said to check the relay by switching the fan relay with low beam relay. That was problem. Purchased a new relay next day and installed it. 2 days later, no low beam lights again. Popped cover on relays to find a melted mess. Low beam relay had melted along with the 15 amp fuse adjacent to it as well as the fuse box. Upon further research on line, this seems to be an ongoing issue with this vehicle. I'm currently hunting down a used under hood fuse/relay box to replace this one with.

Headlights, rear lights and brakelights bulbs have been replaced several dozen times. They burn up so need replacing. Have replaced full boards in rear lights as well, after several days all go out again and will replace again. I have brought it to the dealership in the past and they have said that certain VIN numbers with same problem have been recalled for this but mine hasn't been recalled yet. Strong smell of gas has started over the past couple months. I am assuming as stated in several other reports it is due to the fuel line having some sort of crack.

**instrument cluster** my speedometer started sticking when I would accelerate or dropping below 0 when I would stop. After several weeks the speedometer stopped working completely. None of the other gauges appeared to be affected. I ended up having to have the instrument cluster replaced. The repair facility had to order it directly from Chevrolet which meant I was without the vehicle for 2-3 days as the dash was completely pulled apart. The repairs were around $800. I have seen quite a few other instances of instrument cluster failure in those and other models of Chevy. My brother in law said he had his replaced in his Silverado and that it was covered under a recall but I have not been able to find that information.

Back hatch and window will only open occasionally if I'm lucky. Tail lights went out once and I was able to get the hatch open to fix it. They are out again and I can't get the hatch to open now. I have been replacing head lamps about every 8 to 10 months. Head lights are now going off for no apparent reason while I'm driving at night. I can flip on the brights and then wait a few minutes and flip back to low beams, sometimes this works sometimes it doesn't. the dome lights will not come on and stay on after I turn it off. Half of the dash lights for the radio are out, sometimes they will come on if I tap them. The feature that lets you turn the vehicle off and the radio will continue to play and the windows will still roll down as long as you don't open the door, is not working. Both O2 sensors are out and have been for a long time. I purchased this SUV brand new from a Chevy dealer. I have paid it off and kept up all of the general maintenance on it. When I took it in to get these issues fixed I was told it would be over $2500 to fix and that did not include labor. This SUV is a lemon, if I was in a position to trade it in or buy a new one I would, and I would not be getting another Chevy. I have never been notified of any recalls. I only found out about the electrical recalls on the turn signals and tail lights because a friend had heard about them and suggested a website to check. I'm calling the dealer today to see if I can get these issues taken care of. Another reason I will not be buying Chevy again.
