CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.
The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

Immediately after recall work was done I experience issues. When I try to start my car (push to start requires you to push the break and push the button) break peddle won't depress, service transmission lights comes on. I call a tow truck and get it dropped off at the closet dealership. I arrive behind the tow truck and watch it be dropped off explain to service adviser whats going on and I just had recall work done and that is when the issues started. Immediately without even looking at my car or knowing what car is mine she says no its not related to the recall. She is not a technician and doesn't actually know the cause yet. They call later in the day and tell me the body control module has shorted out and needs to be replaced. It is no longer communicating with the tcm(the tcm was updated during recall work but the BCM was not.) the two can longer communicate because they are now basically speaking a different language. Of course I am told not related to recall. The next day I get a call saying my battery that was previously working great can no longer pass a test. Someone was trying to crank and start my car( the car that went in for a break peddle that would not depress and would not start) I now need to pay for a new battery and there is an installation fee to replace the battery. Next day my cars steering wheel controls no longer work and something else has shorted out. My rental car not only has trash in the back seat but a roach that crawls out from in between the seats. I get a call that the tech who worked on my car finished at closing time so to bring back the rental next day! I'm thinking my car wont have any more issues, I'm wrong!! the menu on my car lets you view the tire pressure and temperatures of the vehicle. All of a sudden the oil temp doesn't display. The setting for my doors to be unlocked with the hand sensor on driver door wont work!
The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the air bag sensor light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to hendrick Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge (7630 hendrick auto plaza, concord, nc.) where it was diagnosed that the electrical wires were faulty. The failure was repaired but reoccurred. Vehicle stutters while driving came to a red light and my car almost shut off went to the dealer where I purchased the car less than a month ago and they tried telling me this is normal this is a constant thing I have 3 young children and it is a serious safety issue, this is not an intermittent problem
On Thursday 03/8/2018 and Saturday 03/10/2018 we started our vehicle without incident and traveled less than 1/4 of a mile down our street when a warning alarm sounded and the dash board read something like, "pull over and place vehicle in park in order to start." When we tried to start (key-less car) it would not start right way and made an almost grinding sound. After about 30 seconds to a minute, eventually it started. I do see 2 recalls for this vehicle which describe the vehicle stalling without warning but when I place my VIN in the search it does not identify any recalls on this vehicle. The recall numbers I believe may relevant to our vehicle is Chrysler's R24 and S55.
The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle slowed down and stalled without warning. All the warning indicators illuminated before the failure. The vehicle was able to be restarted after a few moments. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. It was unknown if the manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 74,527.
Tamara recall - the check engine light came on during cold weather (under 30 degrees), and the issue was that the engine coolant was below a specified temperature for a specified amount of time. Several weeks later my check engine light came on and my dash said that the car was overheating. I drove a few more miles and stopped in a parking lot. After work I drove it home and watched the temperature, but it didn't get hot again. I took my car to the dealership. I was told this was a common problem with these vehicles, and once the part was replaced, the issue does not happen again. I believe if it's a common problem, and I believe this could become a safety issue, it should be a recall. Please look into this issue to help drivers before it happens to them.
Car was purchased used 8/1/17 for my daughter going to college. Car would not start on weekend test drive, they replaced the battery. I did get dealer to fix 3 open recalls. Sept 2017 my daughter was driving at college and car broke down while at a light, would not start.. got towed to dealer and it started. The dealer found an open code to replace fuse panel and completed fix. Dec 23 2017, car died while driving, however started 5 minutes later. Jan 2018, car would not start - jumped and it started. 1 hour later would not start or respond to jump. Towed back to dealer and next day when they got to it started right up. Feb 6 2018, car died while daughter driving it at 35-40 mph, she managed to get to the shoulder. After 10 minutes the car started and she took it to the dealer. They found a code to replace the PCM. Feb 18 2018 the car would not start. This car has had several recalls and now I will not let my daughter drive this car as her campus is 2.5 hours away and in the mountains - could not imagine what would happen if she was driving over the mountains and the car died. It is sitting in my driveway as I try to work with the dealer to buy back this car. Chrysler should be ashamed, this is obviously a known issue yet they can't fix it and are putting peoples lives at risk. I do not have the ability to attach service records at this time but I do have them.
The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. While driving 20 mph and accelerating from a stop light, the rpms revved highly, but the vehicle barely moved. The contact stated that the vehicle felt as if it jumped into gear and made the tires screech. The following day, while driving 30 mph, the vehicle automatically shifted into neutral when the accelerator pedal was depressed. When the contact pulled the vehicle over, turned if off, and restarted it, the vehicle was able to shift into drive. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The dealer was contacted (russ darrow Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge of West bend, 3210 w Washington St, West bend, wi 53095) where it was determined that no recalls were associated with the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,000.
I was in 2 auto repair facility because the light engine is on and they said the problem is cooling system:code for thermostat rationality.....I dont know is this is normal, because my car is only 2 years old.
The makes a rattling noise when it start for some reason, I don't know if it normal and while I'm driving and trying to accelerate it makes that noise to. It makes the noise every day.
Have had vehicle approx 1 yr. While driving 45mph on city street check engine came on with engine overheat msg and engine cooling sensor as well. Replaced sensor and while driving the next day on highway at 70 mph to see if the system readjusts itself to the new sensor message came on again with added service elecrtrical throttle control msg and check engine lights again. I was near oreill and it produced codes for thermostat, cooling sensor, system performance, etc. Messages are not on screen now but check engine lights still on. I believe it triggers when cooling temp reaches appx, 189 F. after doing some research many others are experiencing these issues and seems the problem escalates to much worse such as shutting off while driving. No recalls thus far but many people anticipating someone needing to die before something is done. I drive with my children almost all of the time and am very concerned.
My husband and I went on a trip from bellevue, Ohio to fort wayne, Indiana. Around 300 miles round trip, give or take. My husband checked the oil before we left and it was fine. No problems on the ride there. After the car sat for 3-4 hours we were leaving the park, going down a hill with a curve at the bottom and the car just dies. No steering and no brakes. All the lights on the dash came on. We had no idea what was going on. We almost hit a camper. The only thing that stilled worked was the radio. The car finally stops on its own. My husband puts it in parking and checks on the outside of the car to make sure we didn't hit anything. When he true to start the back up, it struggles the first two tries. The third time it turned over. No lights on dash to explain the stall. We nervously drive the car all the way home. I called the dealership the next morning. We took the car in to be checked out. Dealership had the car over night. We go in to pick up our car and they tell us that they had to put 3 3/4 quarts of oil in it. It being low on oil caused the safety feature in the car to shut the engine down. Didnt know about this feature. We were also informed that since our car had over 50,000 it will burn through a quart of oil every 750 miles..seriously. After the dealership tried to charge us 75 dollars for labor, which I refused to pay. I went home and researched the oil consumption for our car. On the Chrysler website it does state that our car will consume 1 quart of oil for every 750 miles. Chrysler says this is acceptable. My dad is a retired mechanic of 45 years and hes beyond outraged that this is acceptable. At 80 an oil change and for someone that travels a lot, that's ridiculously expensive. How can this be acceptable? mind blown by this.
