This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
After operating vehicle under heavy load (snowplowing), the hydraulic clutch line ruptured when the clutch was depressed and the hydraulic fluid ignited on the hot exhaust system. Note: There was a recall (NHTSA campaign id number : 99V115000 ) issued for the exact same problem with this make/model/year truck with a V10 engine verses the V8. The heat from the nearby exhaust pipe exceeded the temperature rating of the hydraulic clutch line material causing it to rupture.
Pulling loaded cargo trailer on a hot day in heavy traffic kin san antonio, tx. All a sudden truck started slowing down and smoke started coming out from under the truck. Stopped and looked under and transmission fluid was coming out of transmission on to hot exhaust. The hot transmission fluid melted the plastic/nylon material at the fluid line of the transmission and caused fluid to spray all over the exhaust and under side of truck and onto the payment. Transmission and lines had to be replaced. I was not aware of this recall as I had never been contacted. I wish I had, I would have saved about $4000!!!!
My main complaint is the transmission. The pressure seal for second gear has been replaced 3 times. It lasts for about 30,000 miles and then goes. I've had to pay for the repair 2 out of 3 times. Approx 1400.00.. the last time I had parts put in that were not Chrysler products.
Paint is coming off in huge spots. Starts as a small faded area then starts peeling. Transmission stalls in second gear and takes a while to shift to third.
Driving up hill, stopped at top of hill and started again. Noticed transmission would not shift out of first gear, pulled over to side observed transmission fluid leaking from disconnected lines, recall 97V084000 does not relate to the deisels vehicles
During failure all of the warning lights flash the transmission goes haywire and the tachometer goes haywire. This truck has been at three different shops, we have changed out the transmission relay, the headlight lamp, serviced the transmisison and still cannot find the cause. In addition, we have replace a radio which has shorted out and the fuel indicator doesn't work. Both of which failed before the truck was three years old, unfortuneately just out of warranty.
