This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I own a 1999 Dodge Ram. As I understand, you have received tens of thousands of complaints regarding the dash plastic failure. As I read the posts, I see that an overwhelming majority of these vehicles (Dodge Ram) all have the same problem. The entire plastic dash splinters into shards, regardless of time or care and upkeep. So has mine. I would like to emphatically add my name to the growing list of disgusted owners. I am more than concerned about the shards of plastic around the airbag. What will happen to my passenger(s) if the air bag deploys? I work as a firefighter, and have seen first-hand the results of the violent air bag deployment. I can't imagine the extent of the additional injuries if sharp pieces of plastic are added to the blast of the airbag. This is not merely an issue of aesthetics or poor craftsmanship. It is a monumental safety issue. Please help. Sent respectfully

This is the second accident I have reported to you. The first was yesterday. I want to apologize. I switched the VIN numbers. The VIN number for ODI # 758677 should have been [xxx]. the accident this current report refers to a sacramento county Dodge Ram 1500 truck that was used by our park Ranger. It was traveling down a trail road at high speed when the driver lost control and hit a tree head on. The air bags did not deploy. Please see my comments from my previous report for my worries about the quality of Dodge's investigation. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I was in an auto accident where I rear ended a tractor trailer. I was traveling 70mph and the tractor trailer 55mph. I hit the truck exactly perpendicular and the front of my truck was crushed in about 2 feet. The frame was severly damaged and had to be replaced. I am filing this because the body shop highly recommended we take action. He said the area where the sensors for the airbags are located was mangled and that the airbags should have deployed. The airbag system was checked by john keltner (lic. # 35844). His remarks were that the system test was performed and no problems were found at this time and no repairs were needed. I am aware of some recalls with Dodge and wanted to be sure the airbag systems would be covered. Thank you for your help.
