This evidently is a known issue with the Edge. There has been a recall but not for my vehicle- Ford seems to think that since my car was not built in a certain plant and NHTSA hasn't requested other vehicles WITH THE SAME EXACT DEFECT be fixed, they will do nothing. My Honda Odyssey with 287k and Toyota Tundra with 299k have never had issues like this. I will be going back to 'foreign' vehicles again- ones that actually offer a decent warranty and fix their cars!

While driving my child to school this morning, I could not press my brake pedal! I had heard some hissing noises the week before, but had not had any issues otherwise. I immediately called the dealership that was within 1 mile of my location. He said I needed to bring it in immediately because it sounded like it was the brake booster.

I travel a lot for work and with my kids, so I was very concerned that I need to get this checked prior to heading on the highway at that very moment for work. Upon arriving at the dealership, they took the information and stated they knew of a recall for this issue. They would diagnose the issue to confirm. It was confirmed that the brake booster needed to be replaced-HOWEVER, as listed above from other complaints, my VIN number was not listed as one that is covered under the recall.

I followed up and called Ford Customer Service while waiting on the repair only to have the agent repeat multiple times that my car was not covered. Not being able to use the brakes is a HUGE safety concern. Ford should acknowledge that this problem is obviously an issue for additional owners of 2013 Ford Edge vehicles and cover the repairs that are already under recall for cars manufactured in that same year.

I am very disappointed with Ford for this and this will be the last Ford I purchase.

Ford is obviously aware of the Brake Booster failure problems that they have had on specific Ford edge and MKX vehicles, as I've seen a lot of complaints related to the replacement of the Brake Booster for my model. I did my research and Notified Ford of the issue, and found that they issued a Brake Booster Warranty Extension for 2010 thru 2013 Ford Edge, but told me that my vehicle does not qualify because it was built outside of the Oakville assembly plant. So, apparently these boosters seem to be failing quite frequently, and pose a serious safety threat, but If I want my 2013 car repaired, I need to post up the $800.00 + to get it fixed. I honestly cant believe that Ford can blatantly ignore this issue especially on a $35,000 three year old vehicle. After owning a F150, F350, 2 Fusions, 1 focus, 2 explorers, I may be done with Ford over this lack of interest in my families safety...

The brake power vacuum booster problem seems a popular problem for Ford Edge as it is all over the internet. I love Ford Edge but I can't stand the scary feeling when I faced this problem (first problem I faced in this car) so I posting here the issue. Suddenly the brake pedal is randomly very soft (runs to the ground) or very hard (does not move). So I had to push it very hardly to stop the vehicle..of course it takes more distance to make it stopped in addition to being very alert to when this problem will suddenly be raised on the road... I really can't see how Ford, as a great company, can leave this problem of its cars in the market and the dealers and letting people lives exposed to real risky potential danger and accidents..

Thank God I am safe and I put my car to the service provider (Al Tayer in Dubai) and should get it fixed by tomorrow end of day. I don't know how disappointing more it could have been if I am not covered under warranty period. I am questioning my self was it the right decision to buy the Ford Edge?!!!!! or any car can have this kind of unexpected serious problems, that's why they invented the warranty concept on the new cars?!! My advice to anyone is to never buy a used car with NO warranty on it from the dealer for at least couple of years !

My car does not brake while in reverse. I have taken vehicle into dealership because problem is not consistent dealership told me I was crazy! Problem happens all the time, I have almost hit other vehicles, adults and kids while in reverse because my brakes are so delayed to kick in. I have to put a ton of pressure on my brakes to make them work.

Can't say I wasn't warned that I would be spending most of my time getting vehicle serviced. It hurts that I purchased this on April 17, 2013 with 23k miles on it. (Yes, I was warned). It was the same as a 2012 SEL that the dealer tried to sell to me brand new for $36K. Glad I did not make the grand investment as the disappointment would be greater. I am truly scared now considering the reviews of brakes failing, vehicle shuddering violently and stalling since my daughter who earned her driving privilege last year, uses the vehicle periodically. She is the one who noticed the sound of pressure being released when the brake was pressed. Hint to all drivers, turn off the fancy gadgets and listen to your vehicles.- I test drove it myself and the brakes performed awkwardly and was not as comfortable as I had grown accustomed. I drove it about 5-6 miles and felt scared each time I was braking. This feeling occurred before I did the research on the braking issues of the Ford Edge. Additionally, I am scared of brakes failing having lost my well performing 10 year old Altima to an accident (t-boned by a F-150) due to driver's negligence. I love the body style of the Ford Edge and I rented it on many occasions prior to buying one. Truth be told, maybe it is better as a rental vehicle, not purchased. I emailed Ford and received a response in less than 2 hours. Took the car to the dealer yesterday, July 5, 2013 and had to call today, July 6, 2013 as they failed to apprise me of the situation. The service tech says it is the brake booster. Internet research shows it is a problem and people have lost braking power needlessly. Ford states they are working with the NHTSA and reporting all problems. I do hope this is true. Ford, we are trying to support your efforts and applaud you for not taking a bail out. WE ALSO NEED YOUR SUPPORT. The good news is Ford states the repair is under warranty and they will fix this $700 job. As much as am told never to buy an extended warranty, I still did...just not from Ford....that was " just in case." Still love the EDGE.
